Auston Matthews Young Guns Opening Price If Drafted By...

If the Oilers get YET ANOTHER #1 pick and Auston Matthews. first off I hope that team folds, because enough is enough.....

There isn't another team on the planet who could suck more in a row than the Oilers, they shouldn't even be allowed to pick #1 until they make the playoffs....

I can't even think of the prices now, just the thought of Edmonton pick #1 has my blood pressure off the charts...

haha I love everything you said :corn:

Eichel levels, sustained if it's with Toronto or Montreal.

There's a couple factors working against him: he's an American kid playing in Europe. There's not a nightly highlight reel on SportsCentre and Sportsnet Central for him like there was anytime McDavid scored a beauty goal with Erie last year.

So why the big change in opinions on him. During the world jrs I was told by many people who have posted in this thread that Mathews was better than Mcdavid. What happened? Is it McDavid doing so well, Mathews doing bad or is people that indecisive lol. I have tried to follow him and he seems to be doing well, certainly no risk of falling from the number 1 spot.

Bottom line, he's a US kid, and that alone affects the price more than anything else. If he was Canadian, it might (but I doubt it) reach McDavid prices out of the gate, especially if they don't over saturate the market like they did this year with McDavid. But, since he's a US kid, I expect the prices to be right about where Eichel's were out of the gate, and settle around the same price as Eichel's. It's supply and demand, most of the big money is spent by Canadian's on Canadian born players. It's been that way forever, and rightfully so IMO. You could probably sell 250,000 McDavid Young Guns in Canada, but you are not going to sell 250,000 Eichel or Mathews Young Guns in the US or Canada.

I still conclude that he's up there talent-wise with Eichel. Eichel's YG did ~$90 at release.

I say around 100-125. Phil Kessel put up huge numbers for the leafs but it didn't do much for the value of his cardboard. Matthews could be in the same boat. He is not Connor McDavid and is not going to sell like Connor McDavid.

$100 is about right. The printers are gonna be off the hook again, so don't expect them to sell for much more than that with e-cards and retail and hobby etc etc. 20,000 YGs printed at least.

Big difference in that Kessel wasn't in Toronto as a rookie. Wasn't drafted by the Leafs. Matthews mania will dwarf anything you ever saw hobby-wise for Kessel. It will surpass everything we have seen except for McDavid. I'm going to say $200.

So basically what RNH was going for when he was a rookie. I can't see Matthews doing better than that.

And whoever said at one point he was touted to be better than McDavid, I don't know how accurate that is. I don't think at any point was Matthews better or projected to be better than McDavid.

Probably $200 plus. Might even surpass McDavid as the most sought after YG. I think if the Leafs do select Mathews, being that he is an American, the North American factor always plays a big part with card values, and on top of that the Leafs are the biggest hockey franchise on the planet, and they have not had a player like this since Sundin or Wendyl Clark. All that being said, going to TO makes him, imo, at least as collectible or moreso than even McDavid.

I cant see more than 150-175, Gomaz is right in that he is the first homegrown high end rookie the Leafs have had since card collecting changed in the 90's. The only reason why i can't see it going higher is the sheer abundance of Leaf rookies next year. You potentially have :

Matthews
Marner
Nylander
Soshnikov
Hyman
Gauthier
Lindberg
Campbell
Kapanen
Valiev
Johnson
Brown
Leipsic

Add on to it that all of the top 3 forwards there are better than anything homegrown in the Leafs system since probably Wendel and it will be a crazy year. Toronto will be double the price of everyone else in group breaks.
