Auston Matthews Young Guns Opening Price If Drafted By...

I am going to jump on the crazy Leaf fan band wagon and say around 200. People are going to be coming out of the wood work like crazy. Thisbtime last year you would be lucky to find someone who could name the starting short stop for the Jays now every other person can rhyme off the stats of almost every player. When Toronto gets something hot they all pile on.

I'm going to guess around $150us, with Nylander and Marner selling for at least $50us behind it, going to be a crazy year in Leaf land if the team plays well, or even decent.

Agree.

300+ off the bat.

This. I'm born and raised in Toronto. We love our sports team. And when they're hot, the fans go nuts. Look at the Blue Jays & now the Raptors this year. Insanity.

It's going to be a great Draft Day this year when Matthew's is finally selected! :D

I am starting to get concerned that the Leafs won't let Laine slip to Winnipeg. Sure hope they do but not so sure they will anymore. Someone please ensure me they will lol!

I'd be happy with either Matthews or Laine.

I can say this. There are people in Toronto who are starving for a first rounder to throw their money around. I'd say out of the gate, $200 at the Expo on Friday and perhaps 1/2 of Saturday and then peter around $140 to $150 on Sunday.

I think people are underestimating how much money a Leafs fan will spend. Trust me, I know.. lol

This will defy all logic as to how good a player he is or isn't.

Bottom line, he's a US kid, and that alone affects the price more than anything else. If he was Canadian, it might (but I doubt it) reach McDavid prices out of the gate, especially if they don't over saturate the market like they did this year with McDavid. But, since he's a US kid, I expect the prices to be right about where Eichel's were out of the gate, and settle around the same price as Eichel's. It's supply and demand, most of the big money is spent by Canadian's on Canadian born players. It's been that way forever, and rightfully so IMO. You could probably sell 250,000 McDavid Young Guns in Canada, but you are not going to sell 250,000 Eichel or Mathews Young Guns in the US or Canada.

I will admit, I'd love it even more if he was a Canadian born kid. But I think it won't matter this time around. With the exposure of the NHL games, kids are picking who ever their favorite color is these days. Its kind of cool to see a kid with an Uncle Leo jersey on. I think had this been 10 years ago, that may have been the case, I am hoping I am correct in my assumption above.

Was at a hobby shop in Toronto today and owner said a Matthews Leafs YG would easily sell for $250-$300 locally. I believe it!

That's a lot of coin! Couldn't see it sticking, however, I wouldn't be surprised if we see a YG or two sell for that much right out of the gate, fresh off the release date. The "Toronto Factor" is huge and wouldn't put anything past it. :)

Exactly. Once Matthews gets a few games under his belt and he's not putting McDavid-type point-per-game numbers, the price of his YG is going to settle down. Still think it's going to fetch decent money but unless Matthews exceeds expectations his card values aren't going to be like McDavid's, even with the added demand due to the bigger market.

Hell, Edmonton is a fraction of Toronto's fan base and they were able to sustain crazy values of numerous #1 picks (+ Eberle) in the card market. They're shelling out Crosby RC values for McDavid. I don't think it's as simple as "Toronto has more fans, therefore Matthews is going to sell for a lot"

250-300 cash easily on the expo floor Friday afternoon. 150 or so on ebay after the e-cards etc. all hit the market.

*EDIT* If he somehow falls to Winnipeg deduct 100 bucks off the expo price.

Leafs - $300 - only cause it's Toronto
Canucks/Canadiens - $275 He will play with the Sedins in Vancouver, or he a set up man in Montreal
Flames, Jets, Oilers - $150 - Only price I could come up with
Sabres, Coyotes, Blue Jackets - $80 it will end up being a Tavares year if he goes to one of these teams

Very realistic his YG would sell for that range at LCS's. My impression is that the prices being quoted here so far would be "ebay prices." And although we are comparing Mathews YG to McDavid's, I don't think either McDavid or Mathews YG's will ever be of Crosby calibre.

I think a lot of it will depend if UD continues with their e-Pack offering next year with Series 1 which I believe they're planning on doing.

Start at $250-300 CDN, settle around $150 CDN.

If the early releases are any indication of where the hobby values Matthews compared to McDavid expect around $100-150. The MVP #1 redemption is going for $100-150, McDavid was 3-4x that last year. The Artifacts redemption can be had for $50-75 whereas McDavid was $200+ at this time last year. There are a lot of Leaf fans out there but they don't tend to shell out big bucks for very much in my experience.

I would be shocked if he isn't in Series 1 but has the YG Checklist been confirmed?

I would really love to see a Zane McIntyre (Bruins) YG this year! He is going to be a stud in Boston!
