was it Green that bit Dubinsky? i thought reports were originally Morrison. either way, Brashear and whoever bit should be suspended and considering how the NHL is flaky and deals suspensions based off how much damage is done, Brashear should be getting multiple game suspensions since Betts was knocked out of the game.

Brashear is probably getting suspended for his pre game antics, not the hit.
Also further down the post the retracted there statement about green being suspended, just Brashear on the block now.

So, is the question whether it was a late hit or an illegal hit (or both)? I missed the actual hit...I only saw the aftermath of the hit. I never like to see a player get hurt and even more so at the result of a dirty hit. If it was a cheapshot...Brash deserves to get hit with a hefty suspension.

If Brashear's hit on Betts is being considered for suspension, its most likely because Betts was injured on the play. If he gets back up, we're not even talking about the hit.

I agree the hit was late, but no later than a forward finishing his check on a d-man when they've long since cleared the puck out of the zone. The fact that it was an open-ice hit, and that Betts had no inclination that a hit was coming is why there is so much talk about it.

It would have been tough for Green to bite anyone as he was peeling himself off the boards when the brouhaha started with Morrisonn and Dubinsky.

It was roughly 1 second after Betts released the puck that he got hit. I wouldn't say that was extremely late. It was a shoulder to the head, not an elbow. His elbow came up as Betts was hitting the ice. He did not lead with his elbow though.

i agree with the late hit but brashear is definitely classier than Avery. watch the video, brashear knew his hit was late and at the very least questionable. he doesn't even put up a fight when Mara goes to defend Betts after the hit.

Betts was in no position whatsoever to protect himself, nor was there any real reason to hit him - he'd dumped the puck, stopped, and turned to go to the bench - it was fully a predatory act, and I don't think I'd go so far as to say Brashear was finishing his check. IIRC, Betts stopped (AFTER he was no longer in possession of the puck), and that's when Brashear decided to nail him. I don't think he got him with the elbow though - that was just follow through with the upper arm.

Washington won't miss him anyway.

Restating: Brashear was also involved in a warmup altercation. It was minor, but amounted to a jostling shot of a Rangers player. That is an automatic one game suspension - and likely what he's getting it for. Betts is just the icing on that cake.

I am not sure about that.. Still think he would got a suspension. That hit was to the head and elbow at the end was the icing on the cake.. Players like him are the reason fights should not be banned they need an a** kicking every now and again.
