For all you Non-Twitters - Gomaz's Twitter feed

Well, I said that Pogge shouldn't have been a /99 back a couple of months ago when Karvin confirmed to me he was. Oh well, there goes the wallet on snagging one :p

Now, what I don't understand is why are people complaining about Luke Schenn being a /99? That should not be a surprise to anyone! He's been an SP rookie all year and I would say, deserving of it.

Good pick on the Schenn...not so much on JP, but as Bruce reminded everyone, these are all set way back, so it is what it is.

Also someone mentioned that Leafs typically sell well, so UD may have had that in their minds too.

I'm told the checklist was completed in November. At that point, Mason was a non-factor and Pogge looked decent. The cards get printed and off they go. Such is life people.

In November Pogge hadn't even played yet, though. His first ice time of the 08/09 season was December 22, 2008.

I know everyone says these cards are produced months in advance. Here a November "print date" for cards released in August. That is 10 months. I just don't buy it though. They seem every year to be able to put in new RCs in Series 1 (November) when they guys don't dress for there teams until pre-season in September. That is 3 months. Why with the absolutely most important product of the year, can they not wait just a little longer to finalize /99 RCs? Pogge is such a stinker for a /99 that instead of being happy about hitting a /99 RC, you are going to be upset. When you are talking $1000 difference between say Pogge and Mason being a /99 (just a rough guess) That means $99,000 of value not produced. (I realize that there is now 249 of Masons RC, but work with me!) To take a huge Cup hit, and reduce it to an ugly poor RC in Pogge is an absolute stinker IMHO. I'm not sure "such is life" is the approach that passionate hockey collectors should take on this obvious oversight. If they truly needed to be printed in November, why not make 249 of every RC and then choose the 6 best by say February and just discard the remaining 150 spare RCs for the 6 RCs they choose. This would be a lot cheaper than not putting $99,000 in value in the product. OK, end of rant.

Brad, Turris did awful, and Wheeler was easily one of the most skilled rookies in the whole crop if not the most skilled. I know you don't like Wheeler but you can't put Turris in front of him. Turris did awful this year, and he's probably just another Gilbert Brule.

i think both are good players but to compare these 2 kids isnt fair. look who they are playing with. boston was a strong team while phoenix.....not so much. hopefully turris doesnt turn into another brule.

"A wicked trios patch with Sid, AO, and Jarome!" Can't wait until that one shows up, although I don't think my wallet is quite as enthusiastic.

ps. Jeremy, try Voltaren for your aching back (no prescription necessary). It does wonders on my back. :D

Program of Excellence - Stastny did play for Canada in 1984 after he got his citizenship but in his heart he was still a slovak.

Wow guys! And that wasn't a good "wow".

Myself and the UD guys have been talking about the Pogge thing all day.

The reason for it is because they had to determine the checklist in November (not print the cards lol).

They are as unthrilled as we are, with the choice now. But they are also unthrilled with their lotto number choices from Saturday. Hindsight, people.

Karvin would love to be able to go back and change out Pogge to Mason, or Filatov or Voracek etc. But he can't.

Anyway, I will start another thread with a pic from today and a quick update. And please, stop this Pogge nonsense. As Bruce said, such is life. And if any of us could go back, I'm sure we'd all adjust a few of the decisions we'd made.

I'm not trying to pile onto the Pogge /99 issue, but I am wondering why do they have to determine their choices so early? I have to think there's enough leeway to allow for a change 6 months ahead of release (ie. end of January/start of February).

Sejna? Chistov? Svitov? Smirnov?

Sejna was a /199, though I think they had half redemptions and half live. The half redemptions never got made so there's less than /99 actually out there. Chistov was coming off a very good playoff run and was a solid choice at the time. Svitov you could argue, as maybe Hemsky or Frolov would have been a better choice. Smirnov was a /199 auto rookie that year.

The cards were originally scheduled to release in June. With hard-signed autograph patch cards, they just take that long to produce.

If Pogge had panned out, UD would be looking like geniuses. He didn't, so now they look like schmucks. Just another case of someone putting faith in the Leaf's organization and having their heart ripped out of their chest.

Probably been asked already, but is there a checklist yet? I want to see if there will be a Tom Sestito RC xxx/249, maybe even a shield?
