new expo owner, what would you change...

At the same time, many dealers aren't there until an hour before opening and aren't set up until the doors open. If you start letting people in early it will only cause problems.

I know I sound like a complete douche in saying this (and I know we're talking in what ifs) but the dealers who take their business seriously will be set up on time. That first hour is for people who paid extra for a VIP package and if you're a VIP dealer, you'll be ready.

Doing this means we'd have to come down on Thursday night, which is another $200-$300 in expenses. If you're going to force dealers to spend more to make VIP packages work, then I would suggest you need to cut dealer costs somewhere else.

However, I think the VIP thing is ridiculous. The regular Joe will have to stand in line to pay his $15 to get in, but some other guy with more money gets an hour or two head start and doesn't have to stand in line? I don't view it any differently than the line jumpers at Disney, and I don't think anyone is a fan of those people.

Are you tAlking about the "fast passes" or the people who just deliberately cut I front of people. (I'm a fast pass guy! Lol)

I just wish they would stop it with the moving of the dates. Some of us plan the activities in our lives months in advance. For this year I had left the first weekend in November open hoping to at least make the Fall Expo, now I see that it has been rescheduled for the second weekend. Unfortunately the Toronto Expo may become part of my past.

There's an excellent chance this isn't the Expo's choice. There are other larger shows and events which book the International Centre, and they might get first shot if they take two or three halls.

This moving of dates six to eight months out was never an issue in the past 25 years so I think there is something else at play like the new ownership.

The moving of the date to April was Al's decision before he sold the show, for two pretty good reasons:

1) The Leafs are usually not playing hockey in May, and
2) The weather is generally much better in May, which means people go to the cottage.

Had it been successful (or depending on the new regime, maybe if it is), the change would have been permanent.

And the second date change was done because.............?

The fact remains that many of us plan our year out in advance and it doesn't appear that this detail has been taken into consideration. It is very likely that I now won't be able to attend an Expo this year whereas I used to go to almost all of them.

I don't know, but as I said a few posts ago, the Expo is nowhere near the only or largest client of the International Centre. It's possible they simply got bumped by a bigger dog.

The November show I thought was usually near Rembrance day....so the dates this year are in line to that

Yes and that would be fine if they had just left it that way all along. However, they didn't and had been advertising it as being the weekend of 4,5 and 6 November 2016 until now. Fine for those who have a really flexible life and schedule. Many of us do not. Cheers.

Why are you spending an additional $200-$300 to come set your tables up for a 12pm opening on a Friday, 9am opening on Saturday AND Sunday? My suggestion was for the VIPs to have access to the show one hour before it opens each day. If you're coming in on Thursday to prep for one hour less sleep then something needs fixing.

The VIP isn't for everyone. If you have the money to spend $200 for the VIP package and want the bells and whistles that come with it, you'll spend it. The whole point of the VIP package would in fact be to pay to be treated like a VIP. Perks being early entry and (EGAD!) not having to wait in line to get in. If Regular Joe wants to be Regular Joe, he'll wait in line (as he's done every year for the last 20 years) with the others who don't want the VIP pass.

I bought the CityPass when I went to Chicago last summer for the National and I bypassed a one hour line to get to the top of the Willis Tower. If those people wanted to avoid the one hour wait like I did, they should have bought the pass. To this day, I don't feel sorry for them and I have an hour of my life to spend on something else...like sleep.

Doug is correct. 2015 was the aberration.

What would I change? More meat vendors!

We can keep the joke going by saying that some of the dealers smell like they're selling salami and such but ne'er a salami to be seen.

But I hear you, a few more of those turkey pepperoni guys would be boss.

hey!! without that meatman we would have to eat that overpriced cafeteria sh_t,"that will be $11.25 for that hotdog sir,if you want a drink just leave your twenty, thanks"
