new expo owner, what would you change...

hey!! without that meatman we would have to eat that overpriced cafeteria sh_t,"that will be $11.25 for that hotdog sir,if you want a drink just leave your twenty, thanks"

Just walk out the door and hit up the Tim Hortons. :D

Why are you spending an additional $200-$300 to come set your tables up for a 12pm opening on a Friday, 9am opening on Saturday AND Sunday? My suggestion was for the VIPs to have access to the show one hour before it opens each day. If you're coming in on Thursday to prep for one hour less sleep then something needs fixing.

Because as it stands now, I'm able to show up at 9 a.m. on Friday and get my tables together by the opening at 1 p.m. Now with the move up to noon (which I like), I'm going to be scrambling, but I get it done. Any earlier, though, and it's another night of hotels in Toronto, plus food, etc.

As it stands now, we have random people wandering through early asking questions. I'm glad to have people possibly spending money, but it's pretty damned hard to set up AND making sure no one is filching anything at the same time.

The VIP isn't for everyone. If you have the money to spend $200 for the VIP package and want the bells and whistles that come with it, you'll spend it. The whole point of the VIP package would in fact be to pay to be treated like a VIP. Perks being early entry and (EGAD!) not having to wait in line to get in. If Regular Joe wants to be Regular Joe, he'll wait in line (as he's done every year for the last 20 years) with the others who don't want the VIP pass.

Tickets can be purchased ahead of time this year. I think that would get customers in the door quickly enough.

I assume most people here are on the Expo's mailing list, but received this over the weekend and thought I'd share it:

"Once again, it looks like the Expo will be a great one with our usual great vendors, a solid hockey guest list and a great show for Blue Jays fans with stars from the World Series Years as well as from the current Jays roster! On that point, please note that we will be staying open an hour later to 7pm on Saturday to allow time for the current Jays to get to the Expo from the field and complete their signings!

Please also note that the date for the Fall show has been changed from what is in the Show program – the dates have been moved to November 11-13 in order to align with the Hall of Fame Induction weekend."

So that's why it was moved. If you don't know, it makes it a heck of a lot cheaper to have autograph signers at the Expo if they already have a reason to be in town the show weekend. Saves on hotels, flights, etc.

That is all fine and good but the Hall of Fame weekend has been known for quite awhile now. So the question still remains why they announcing the show as 4-6 Nov right up until a couple of weeks ago. I repeat that these late changes shaft those of us who plan our yearly activities around the dates that were originally announced. Will they leave the Spring 2017 Expo attached to the 2017 Blue Jays season opener or will they move that date again in the late fall of this year?

I suspect there are very few people out there planning to go the expo that cannot adjust their plans 7 months in advance. For most making the expenditure to go they can adjust their schedule by a week or so.

Good for you, I wish I had that luxury.

And the second date change was done because.............?

The fact remains that many of us plan our year out in advance and it doesn't appear that this detail has been taken into consideration. It is very likely that I now won't be able to attend an Expo this year whereas I used to go to almost all of them.

Yes and that would be fine if they had just left it that way all along. However, they didn't and had been advertising it as being the weekend of 4,5 and 6 November 2016 until now. Fine for those who have a really flexible life and schedule. Many of us do not. Cheers.

Logistics are logistics. I don't think they are switching the dates to keep attendees guessing. There are many constraints in planning a show and every time there can be new issues that arise, whatever they may be.

If they make a switch because they feel it is in the best interest of the show or because they are forced to, and some attendees fall off, that is the cost of business.

Count myself as someone who won't plan my flight, hotel and car for November until August at the earliest. Heck just on Saturday I was talking to a guy who still hadn't booked his hotel for April 8-10, lol. I really think you are in the minority in terms of your planning constraints.

I am all for the promoters doing whatever they do to try and improve the show or to take a shot at a different time to enhance attendance. And if a few people fall off, hopefully many more come aboard.

I get it, it sucks to be me and gone are the days planning ahead.

I don't know, man...I know when I had similar constraints, I would suddenly develop flu-like symptoms and the doctor would prescribe a three-day event of my choosing to rid myself of the symptoms. Worked like a ****ing charm.

Judging by your typing, you seem a bit feverish...takes about two weeks for the current strain to go full-blown. Ahem.

Anyone else having problems purchasing tickets online? I have attempted to purchase the single day pass for the past week, I keep getting an error code "This site cannot be reached". Has anyone else had this issue or is it just me?

Dave

MAKE THE SHOW LONGER! Paying $1K if you include hotel room, if you need it, out of the gate before we even set up is ridiculous. They should make the show length similar to the national. make it more then 3 days with crappy hours. At least 5 days, Monday to Friday or something.

Are you on their no fly list?

I would do a better job in advertising all its dealers and not just the vip
I would rotate free booths for the vip, in return they make a special grab bag for every kid that enters the expo
I would have a representative from ud or leaf or go to the dealers booth and see if they want a redemption program card before the redemption program starts........ this way they don't waste time in lines or away from their booths
I would do a contest for all dealers where one lucky dealer gets 1 booth for free for the expo
I would give each attendee a ticket for raffle prizes each day and you wouldn't have to be present to win

Not to argue the obvious but the cost is far more than $1000 out of the gate per booth but we get your point.

My counter however is that you need to consider most dealers are employed somewhere and have families so making a 4 day weekend is plenty of time to take vacation and be a show dealer in a market that likely cannot provide the crowd or interest over an extended period of timeframe as you suggest - look at all the dead zone time that exists already.

I get this is the hockey card show of the year but for the most part, that is all it is.

Ban the meat guy. Doling out pepperoni sticks to fat guys is like like unleashing heat-seeking stink bombs throughout the joint. Just awful.
