Official 2007 NHL Free Agency thread

I'm not really sure why people keep talking about Ryan Smyth going to Calgary. Sutter has to worry about Iggy and Kipper being UFAs next year and bring in Smyth at $6.5 million will only handcuff him that much more.

I think Sutter should go after Jason Blake. I can't believe the Islanders are letting him go but then again, Garth Snow and Mr.Wang aren't exactly geniuses...

edit: Detroit is dumping Lang and as far as I'm concerned, they can have McCarty back. He is highly ineffective in the new NHL. Shanny still has some gas in the tank, though.

I as an Avs fan are happy to see these two names on the list:

D Patrice Brisebois, C Pierre Turgeon

Nah nah nah nah....nah nah nah nah....hey hey hey....gooooooooooooooooooooooddddddddddbbbbbbbbbbbbyyyyyyyyyyyyyeeeeeeeeeeeee

Oh come on Shawn, you know you were amped when Pierre signed those two!

I'm hearing rumors of Rafalski signing with the Wings. Not sure if it's real or not yet though. I'd be surprised if he left the Devils..

edit: This can't be true if Rafalski's gonna get paid as much as the ridiculous contract the Flyers gave Timmonen!!

Looks like McLean cashed in on playing the last third of the season with Stastny and Hejduk. Get it where you can Brett.

Not too bad $$ wise...the Pens are going to be in a world of salary cap he-double hockey sticks, so they better get 'em signed when they can! I wonder if this means Gonchar is heading out of town?

The Philadelphia Flyers made a big splash to kick off the offseason, signing centre Daniel Briere to an eight-year contract worth $52 million.

The deal will average $6.5 million a season, with the first year paying him $10 million. The contract also features a no movement clause.
