Official 2007 NHL Free Agency thread

Hooray! More money for the Kings to play with under the cap and now Jack Johnson will get to ditch # 33 and wear his # 3.

You guys know what this means for the big picture don't you?

Now I get to chase cards serial numbered to 3! And UD will make plenty of them!:o

As if Blake's numbered to 4 didn't stuff my junk bad enough............

Vishnevski lands in The Swamp

The Devils have signed free agent defenseman Vitaly Vishnevski, Devils' CEO/President/GM Lou Lamoriello announced Tuesday.

Vishnevski, 27, recorded three goals and 10 assists in 67 games split between Nashville and Atlanta last season. He finished the 2006-07 campaign with the Predators after being acquired in a February deal that sent forward Eric Belanger to the Thrashers.

Rangers agree to terms with Shanahan

The New York Rangers have agreed to terms with forward Brendan Shanahan.

The 38-year-old Shanahan skated in 67 games with the Rangers this past season, registering 29 goals and 33 assists for 62 points, along with 47 penalty minutes. He also tied for first on the team with three shorthanded goals and 14 power play goals, and placed second on the Rangers with 295 shots on goal.

The Rangers are going to be a good team this year. I know they have had the high priced underachieving teams in the past but I think this team is different then before.

Kings sign Visnovsky to extension

The Los Angeles Kings have agreed to a five-year contract extension with defenceman Lubomir Visnovsky. Finiancial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

''I'm very happy that I'll be staying with this organization for a long time,'' said Visnovsky from his off-season home in Slovakia. ''I love Los Angeles and I want to play in the playoffs with the Kings.''

Wild lock up Harding with multi-year deal

Minnesota Wild President and General Manager Doug Risebrough announced on Wednesday that the Wild have re-signed goaltender Josh Harding to a multi-year contract.

Harding posted a 3-2-1 record with a 1.16 goals against average (GAA), a .960 save percentage and one shutout in seven games with Minnesota in 2006-07.

He'll make a more than competent back up for Nicklas Backstrom, IMO.

Finally got someone.

Not sure I like it, but, hopefully the power play will finally work, because it's been absolute luggage for years

They have a good young base of forwards : Hemsky, Stoll, Torres, Horcroff, Pisani, Pouliot, schremp, Now with Pitkanen and sourey hopefully they can get them the puck. Still definitely could you a top line winger/center.

Who's got money left for Danny Markov???
Peca, Lindros, Anson Carter, Andy Sutton, Bulis and Sopel still out there. Lindros is a gamble, Carter didn't show anything in Carolina, same goes for Bulis in Vancouver. As far as goalies go: Belfour, Auld, Joseph, Aebischer. Belfour and Joseph older and may not accept back up role. Auld still young and someone should take a gamble on Aebischer. Wasn't that bad in Colo., Montreal never seemed to put him in long term plans, they just took him to get rid of Theodore....... If I had the money I'd grab Markov or maybe Sopel and Peca.

Sopel trips over his own shadow... Peca is useless... I'd take a gamble on Auldy again though... he showed some serious potential in Vancouver, and if he had a bit of a team in Florida, would have shown it there too. I don't know how many times I shouted at the TV this year "ah Bulis you idiot!", so I'm glad he's gone...

As far as Markov is concerned - I think every GM recognizes that his agent is seeking waaay tooo much money for a player that benefited greatly from having Lidstrom as his partner for most of the year. His =/- of 25 was largly due to the team and not him.

Have to agree with Vancouver Bruce - Peca is a waste, either injury or bad luck seem to follow him, same with Lindros. Anson Carter runs too hot and cold. Belfour will be tough to sign - he thinks he should start. Joseph would be a great back-up to Emery, if he could make the adjustment. The problem with the rest of the goalies is all of the $800k youngsters aged 22/26 that will be happy to sign for teams.
