Olympic Gold Medal GDT: Canada vs. USA

Heck Corey Perry may have a shot given everything he has accomplished. He has won a mem cup, Stanley Cup, WJC Gold, and now an Olympic GOld. Not trying to hi-jack the thread but he's done alot in his short time as well.

Congrats to both teams for a fantastic game.

Go Canada Gold!!!!!!!!!!

I dont respect Perry as much because he is a manipulator. He deserved an Oscar for acting like he got hit in the face when it was a clean check that gave Team Canada a powerplay. The west calls him a cheap shot artist, but if he gets in, more power to him.

Gotta love that they beat the Russians and the US to win. The US players can keep their heads held high as they played a great game. A game for the ages

What I love best about Olympic hockey is that I get to see a lot of players that I don't get to watch very often. A lot of the teams like Nashville, BlackHawks, Sharks, Kings etc have great players that we never get to see. I knew that guys like Duncan Keith, Shea Webber, Patrick Kane, Toews, Kesler and alot of the euro league players were good players but wow I never realized how darn good they are. NHL highlights usually only show the best plays, its nice to see them play for a full game.

Great game. YOu know your Canadian when you use a flag attached to a golf ball retriever as you Olympic Stanley Cup.

Got to say wow on Zach Parise and Ryan Miller's faces as they were recieving their silver medals, they did not look happy and it may just have given them more motivation for the remainder of the season.

Congrats to the Canucks on the win today, it was an excellent game. Too bad Sid had the GWG, but such is life. Congrats to Eric Staal for being the only member of the team to join the elusive Triple Gold Club. Enjoy it our neighbors up north, we will be back strong in '14 whether there are NHL players or not.

All I could say when Crosby scored was, It's Crosby, It's Crosby! I mean, who else is it going too be? He will be the face of the game and hobby for a long time now and is slowly etching his name into hockey record books and the hall of fame. Good thing I got his Team Canada Walmart exclusive mcfarlane today, I may hit my local walmart and grab a bunch, I still want Luongo, they will not be $15 plus taxes for long!

Congrats on a great win - that was truely one for the ages - wish we would have been on the other side of it but I pretty well knew it was going to have to be a complete breakdown by Canada in a 4x4 situation for us to pull that one off.

Great Olympic ride and congrats to you American boys as well - the Silver won was the 37th medal for the states in the Olympics which is a new record for total medals - hold your heads high boys and do everything you can to push the league to keep the pros there in Sochi.

It had to be Parise who tied it with seconds left... he just has a knack for big moments.

What a thrill to be at Yonge/Dundas tonight partying with thousands of people... they say "its just a game", but seeing how so many people all over our great country reacted to it proves otherwise.

Kudos to the USA for a great game and a great tournament!

Congrats to Team Canada. You didn't exactly "Own The Podium," but your $117 million bought the most gold medals and the most important one. Kudos to you...

That said, MAD props to Team USA. No matter who won the last game, we were the only team to beat Canada in the entire tournament. If there was a rubber match, I'd like our chances. Silver is nothing to sneeze at for the youngest team in the tournament and we gave Canada all they could handle in the gold medal game.

We set a record for most Winter Olympic medals, ended some long losing streaks, got robbed a few times and were probably given a few breaks (men's figure skating, if you believe that whiner Jenny Pleschenko). A solid Olympics, Vancouver was an excellent host city and a helluva way to bridge the Super Bowl to March Madness gap.

OMFG WHAT A DAY CANADA BABY CROSBY INTENSE

CANADA GOLDEN

This should be a message to the NHL. Officiate games like that. That was easily the best job of officiating I have ever seen. They let the players decide it on the ice, and unfortunately Canada won. I got a call form my sister after regulation and she told me it was "the greatest hockey game" she ever saw. She is a casual sports fan, and a hard fought low scoring game was considered the greatest game she ever saw.

I still think the US team has alot to be proud of. I want to hate Crosby, I really do, but I just cant for some reason. I also thought ther ovation Miller received when given his medal was classy, very classy.

Congrats Canada, you deserve it. See you in 4 years.

PS: I think we were all spoiled by this great tournament. We will not see hockey of this level for another four years.

WORLD JUNIORS BUD

only hockey i enjoy is international hockey...watching NHL is a joke imo

I'd like to think this is untrue Bill, but I agree. The World Juniors bring forth some amazing games every year, but top to bottom, I haven't seen a tournament quite like this one. I went to 3 games, and all 3 were easily the best games I've ever watched live...nothing even comes close (insert your various Canucks jokes here.) I hope Bettman and the owners change their minds after seeing what's unfolded over the last 2 weeks.

Sadly, almost nobody saw what a couple of us agreed was the game of the tournament (Switzerland vs. Norway in the first round) ... today's game comes close, as does Slovakia/Norway from the elimination round, but even though it (Swi/Nor) wasn't exactly a goaltenders dual, the amount of emotion from both sides, end to end play and the outpouring of support from the crowd ... wow. When the memories of this Olympics are long and gone, I'll remember two things - Switzerland scoring in overtime against Norway to end the best hockey game I've ever seen in person, and where I was when Sidney Crosby popped home the Olympic winner, and the friends I shared that moment with.

Wow, great game by the Americans. I was wicked nervous heading into this game, and for good reason. Kesler performed amazingly on the international stage. I'd like to say I wish he were Canadian, although he wouldn't have made the Canadian team, and nobody would notice his intensity and skill. Rick Nash was a beast tonight. I thought he would grab the winner, but congrats everyone. Close games like these are what hockey is all about. Hope all Canadians were rockin' their car horns and vocal cords in the streets post game. Cheers, everyone!
On a side note, Own the Podium ------ Great success, despite the "let down" of the first week and a half! Nobody predicted a record setting number of golds. Also, I detest viewing Americans as underdogs. In any sport in these Olympics, it seemed the Americans always were the most able to thrive under pressure and exceed expectations. Congratulations!

Thought this was a cool photo.

I'm surprised so many think this was the best tournament ever. Perhaps cause you don't watch many international tournaments? I've watched every Olympics and World Cup the past 27 years, and I actually felt this one was a big disappointment. Perhaps cause of the match-ups, the "wrong" teams met etc, but many teams played plain bad imo. Sweden sucked. Finland sucked. The Czechs failed to deliver. Slovakia was quite boring. Russia was a huge huge disappointment, even if they were still fun, but certainly a big failure.

Canada and USA was the only ones who played great (apart from Swiss- Norway apparently, but unfortunately I missed that game). Many of the final games were a disappointment. Sweden-Slovakia was a bore. Finland-Czechs even worse. USA-Finland was just a waste. Only Canada-Russia (fantastic game!), and Canada-USA was actually really entertaining. Two games in a whole tournament.

And even if Canada-USA was a real good game, it was definitely not the greatest game I've ever watched, actually disappointed in that one too, a bit too much tight physical lowscoring game for my taste and none of the goals were very pretty either (and bad reffing, I'm surprised none of you Americans scream murder about the crosscheck from Pronger which was 100% penalty, would have given USA 5-3 powerplay and wouldn't have given Canada 2-0, not that I mind as I cheered for Canada but still). Good game, but not super. It doesn't even come close to the World Cup final two years ago between Canada-Russia, that game is probably still the most entertaining hockeygame I've ever watched. Pure hockeypropaganda. Are you all blindfolded or are you that much in love with tight physical play?
