RIP Luc Bourdon

That really choked me up.

All this...from a strong gust of wind. It seems senseless. Have to keep telling myself what I was brought up to believe...that the Lord lets these things happen for a reason. Very hard, though...

My wife and I have been talking over the last year about me getting a bike. This clinched the decision for us. That money is going to her new kitchen - gladly now for me.

I've also been considering buying a motorcycle, and this isn't going to stop me. It IS, however, going to remind me how important it is to be aware of weather conditions before riding, and also the importance of steering clear of busy roads until I'm ready and capable of riding there.

These eBay listings are getting sick. Literally making me ill.

I've been in touch with Jason Botchford, who wrote the Bourdon article cited earlier. I'm trying to find out where his Mother would like funds donated....

I'll let you all know when I do.

Thanks - I'd like to know since I would like to donate the benefits of the one Bourdon card that I have up on Ebay.

There is a time and a place to sell items of deceased persons, and the ethical collector does NOT up prices or list hundreds of items on the day the person dies - that's disrespectful and appalling. There's a season for everything, and in this case there's a season to mourn the loss... not to advertise "Hey, he died today! He won't be signing anymore!" That sort of thing makes me sick.

I have to agree here. I had a Sean Taylor Press Plate from Topps Chrome, and when he died, his card prices were going crazy. I waited a few months, and still got $100 for it. Granted that was a one of one, but it is still respectful to wait, and maybe make a dollar or two less. just my opinion.

So Dan Snyder and now Luc Bourdon is the focus of ghoulish auctions. Pretty sad. That's life though.

Condolences to all involved and at least Luc is skating n' playing hockey upstairs now. :)

Ok and in a year, what happens to your collection? Are you going to just box it up or give it away? It may be spiteful but its practical. I don't see many Dan Snyder collectors out there..

You must be one of the ebayers with Bourdon cards for sale. How can you think it's "ok" to try and gain from a person's death a mere hours later? I'm sorry but anyone who's doing that, especially whoever wrote "died today" in his subtitle is a total jacka$$

I don't sell on ebay...

I guess TSN and ESPN are gaining from his death to.. Any card released with his depiction in the future is gaining off of him.

Its just politically correct fake outrage.

Explain to me how TSN and ESPN are gaining from his death? By reporting the news of it? Please...

I guess some people have no respect these days. You're one of them.

And outside of your own outrage, you haven't explained how selling his cards, even with "He just died" in the description is gaining anything from Luc or his family.

As important as you think HI is, I highly doubt Luc's mom is trolling message boards looking for every positive comment she can find. They're mourning the loss of their son and people are selling a product that will be almost worthless within six months.

TSN/ESPN reporting it, they aren't doing it for free, they profit from reporting the news. Should we boycott them? What about ITG/UD if they have a stack of Bourdon cards? If hes released in a product after this they're gaining off of his death.

If Meigrey sells one of his jerseys they're gaining off of his death. Its an endless loop of profit. The NHL announced that they were going to have a moment of silence before the game tonight, that will undoubtedly bring in some fans that weren't gonna watch, more profit.

You're asking people to take a loss on an investment because a young man killed himself. Anyone outside of his family has no right to ask any of this or even pass judgment. Who's to say that the family even cares if people are selling cards?

Franzen is having a career year, his cards on ebay tripled and prices skyrocketed, I guess those people should be looked down upon?

??????? What do the two have to do with each other? This comment makes no sense

Its about priorities. Half a million people die and it forgot in a week. Luc Bourdon dies and apparently the hobby is supposed to stop and for the first time, prices aren't supposed to be effected.

If a player suffers a massive career ending injury should prices be frozen? Or should sellers be banned from selling his cards?

For the first time ever in the hobby people are supposed to take a loss because its the "right thing".

Better burn all of those Pelle Lindburgh cards.

More profit because they're gonna have a moment of silence for a fellow member that passed away? That's the most idiotic thing I've ever heard

Nobody said that his cards can't still be sold. Just have the decency to maybe wait a few days/weeks, whatever. But specifically listing them BECAUSE he died is disrespectful. If you can't see that, you're just as bad as the people selling the cards. I'm sure you'll have another "insightful" comeback to this response

And what does this accomplish? Besides personal satisfaction that you did something that is "right" in your mind.

We forgot because we posted something on HI? Please. Enough out of you already

ok gents back to your Neutral corners!
I say lets respect this thread to the Respect of LUC not whether someone is selling cards
karma will come around to them sooner or later and bite them all in the A$$!.
So lets just stop now.. before this escalates any farther! :)

It accomplishes exactly that

In your mind...

Selling his cards on ebay, five seconds after he died takes nothing away from the tragedy or his family. Do you honestly believe that his family is going to search on ebay for his items and see the increase and feel outrage?

Its all personal preference and much like every other thing in life, whats "right" changes on a case by case basis. Aka tap dancing around the Pelle Lindburgh point. Tasteless! rabble rabble rabble!

We're having a discussion and im addressing a person who's saying a large group of people are classless.

Its irrational to think that this effects or lessens Luc Bourdon's death in anyway. Do you think the Canuck's will stop selling his jerseys? If anything they're making MORE to be ready for next season.

Its a fact of life.

Then maybe some minds are smarter than others... You feel however you want to feel about the situation. You're in the minority, along with people who are taking advantage of the situation to make an extra few bucks. It speaks volumes about who you are

If by minority you mean people who are confident enough to admit their personal beliefs instead of saying RIP and going with the flow yes. You haven't addressed any point I've made, you're just insulting me and calling me classless because apparently anyone who sells a Bourdon card within an imaginary time period is literally taking money out of the pockets of the Bourdon family.

I could say many things about the character and class of #15 in your sig....
