trade deadline just got more interestin, Rick Nash available

Wow... I'd love to see Nash go to a contender. I'm guessing San Jose makes a run for him. Thornton and Nash always play well together...
 
My guess is that Nash will cost a blue chip prospect, a first rounder and a young producing roster player. Maybe throw a veteran Defenceman into that mix.

For all the talk of him coming to Toronto I don't see Nash meshing any better with Kessel than he did with Carter, though the Leafs on paper certainly have the personnel to get him.
 
I just don't get it! If anyone gets traded from Columbus I would have thought it would have been Carter and maybe even Huselius. Very interesting indeed.

Considering he makes $7.8 mil a season for the next 6 seasons not a whole lot of teams will be able to afford him. As well, they give up 1 or 2 good roster players and a couple high end draft picks. Again, that puts a few teams out of contention.

If this is true then I hope Brian Murray is on the phone already. :rolleyes:

Lupul-Bozak-Kessel work. It's been shown now time and again Kessel doesn't need to play with anyone to score. He meshes well with Lupul and Bozak (for whatever reason).

Nash on Grabbos wing would be interesting. Grabovski is a speedy, shifty guy who loves to carry the puck through the neutral zone with speed. His speed, and Nash's size and strength would REALLY open things up for each other. I think they would compliment each other real well.


Nash's tag is 7.8M a year for the next 6 years. He has a NMC (so he dictates where he wants to go)... you would guess that all 29 other teams would be making a phone call but give his NMC (he would obviously rule our a trade to a number of teams), his term and salary I bet you the market isn't quite as big as one would think. I'd say, 8-10 teams would be "interested" but only a handful would be realistic.
 
It seems obvious, but he'll only get moved for an overpayment I think. It'll be a 1st rounder and a potential stud dman and goalie at the least, or it should be at least.

I wouldn't mind having Dougie Hamilton in a CBJ sweater. Sure would give Boston a great chance at a repeat with Nash there.

Nick Foligno, Jared Cowen, and a second rounder for Nash.

When Burke first went to TO he said that the main FA he wanted was Nash. Then Nash went and resigned the longterm deal with the Jackets. Lets hope he can get Nash now, that would be awesome.
 
My immediate thought was he would be perfect in LA but they have no cap space, at least this year. I wonder if they can get Columbus to take Penner as a salary dump, maybe even Gagne, one good young player (I bet Columbus would want someone like Voynov) and a couple of high level prospects.

this is what i think DL should offer for Nash/Sanford

Bernier/Penner/Martinez/1st

or

Bernier/Penner/Voynov/Cliche

CLM gets new starting goalie with huge potential, NHL ready d-man to play right away, an expiring contract to make the numbers work and either a first or the Kings leading scorer in Manchester.

that being said, i'd still rather trade Bernier/Stoll for Carter/Sanford.

Semin is a pending UFA, he has no value to Columbus. He might walk for free in a couple months... then CLB would have traded their franchise player for nothing.



Detroit has the cap space but not the assets (I dont think). Not to mention they are IN COLUMBUS's DIVISION. If they trade Nash, you can be sure they will exhaust all options out East first.



Checklist (not in specific order) of a Nash trade:

1) Eastern Team
2) Team with young, affordable, NHL roster/caliber players
3) Cap space
4) Playoff contender
5) Must give a very good goalie or Dman who's young in return
6) 1st round pick must be included



Those are the things that will undoubtedbly play into account... because of that, I see 4-5 teams being in the "real" mix. Boston, NYR, Philly, Toronto and possibly Pittsburgh. A West team like LA may be also.

Those are the handful of teams who can satisfy MOST (probably not all) of that checklist.
