Unbelievable Upper Deck Response-What would you do?

How as collectors are we supposed to boycott UD when they are pretty much the only product we have to buy from an NHL licensed standpoint? I would be for it....but then where would I get my Bergeron cards from? Do you guys think that buying the product/singles off of ebay or just the singles from someone privately is still a form of supporting UD?
I hate their customer service....total a$$es and have no clue what is going on. I had a guy tell me once that my card that was shipped out was already signed for and delivered and I asked him to research WHO the HELL signed for it since it wasn't me! Next time I call another guy tells me the last should have known that it was "stuck" in shipping in San Diego. Doesn't anyome know whats going on at that place?
Count me in on a list against them when someone starts one!

I understand that issue, and I have been struggling with that for the past 2 years. Here is what I currently am doing: I buy Gretzky singles on eBay for prices that I feel comfortable with, not get into bidding wars with other bidders; I no longer purchase unredeemed redemption cards; and I no longer open UD wax. This way, you "support" UD as little as possible, while also building your player collection. Basically, it is the bear-minimum, and nothing above and beyond that.

Glenn, of course everyone can wait. It's not like UD has plans of just "fixing" their issues over night.

Oh and about Carlin saying filing with the BBB wouldnt be a wise move, I would like to ask the simple question. "Wouldn't be wise to who exactly?". We have nothing to loose with everyone filing with the BBB, it's our easiest and possibly most effective option. Complaints to the BBB could include redemptions, QC as well as wording on their cards. It has nothing to do what UD can prove in a courtroom but more so how they are cutting corners that is what the BBB is for, its to make sure Businesses aren't screwing over its customers, exactly what UD is doing in so many ways. Just go read the new beckett thread with 30+ replies about the Unofficial jerseys in Trilogy. It's still going on in 2007, will continue to do so. It's only a matter of time until they change the wording on their gu and redemptions.....again

I just sent a letter off to Uper Deck expressing my concerns with their redemption program.I still have 23 outstanding redemptions with some nearly 18 months old.I do not expect any resolve from my letter as it is not the first one I have sent.
But as back before the Fall Expo I am certainly on stream with any action this group of collectors decides to take.I am in no hurry with it.So whenever you proceed just LMK what I can do to help.Thanks,Winston.

Has anyone filed a claim with the BBB?? I only dabble in hockey, so my experiences are with the other sports. I have redemptions from April 2005, so quickly coming up on 2 years. Odd thing is the players from those redemptions show up in other products.

Short story, dont know if coincidence or not, guy at the card story told CS this was the last time he was going to call and get the run around for his long awaited redemption and the next step was the BBB and then to some consumer protection agency. His items were shipped within the week.

Has anyone actually filed with the better bus bureau?

The straw that broke the camel's back... Glenn, PM me when you have a moment... you and I have already discussed the class-action situation and what we can do as a concentrated group effort.

As I said previously in another thread, there are $millions of value in redemptions that UD has not come through on. While UD is at major fault (since they're the ones collecting the $$ from us collectors), the NHLPA needs to be held at least a little bit accountable for the players not getting autos back in time. However, that's an aside... let's just get the ball rolling! I'm not only "in", I'm in with both feet and my wallet. Let's go!

Not sure if this qualifies for the BBB or Class Action suit, but I had a redemption that was pending 15 months:

Redeemed 2/3/2005
COFFEY/MURPHY/BOURQUE
2004/05-NHL LEGENDS CLASSICS -TRIPLE CLASSICS #'D/25
Replacement Shipped 5/22/2006

I exchanged e-mails with Chris Carlin for the better part of 3 months (after my redemption hit the one year mark) before getting sick of the excuses and false promises. So I decided to "cash out" with a replacement at the 15 month marker.

To date (7 months later), I don't believe this card has still been produced or released... so I'm glad that I decided to throw in the towel.

All three of those guys have autographs in the 05/06 and 06/07 releases, so it's pretty lame of UD to just let this situation fester.

No surprise here on the response. I gave up on them a long time ago and will never go back to buying anything with an UD logo on it, if that means I'm out of the hobby because they are the only ones making nhl licensed cards then so be it. They are pathetic and as shaddy as they come so whatever happenes to them will be well deserved. Count me in on a big BBB complaint or whatever else it comes to to hit this company right were it hurts there bottom line.

Myself, I've stopped buying UD wax.

I'm still picking singles, but I don't get into bidding wars for UD stuff. ITG memorabilia stuff is so much nicer, especially the vintage stuff.

And, when I feel the need to break wax, Pinnacle and Donruss stuff from 97-98 is so shinny and fun to break :D

Not sure how I missed this post before. Of course you need to take whatever action you deem necessary, but here is something to consider:

Just today I called up that Redemption Protest thread and re-read it. One of Chris's commitments was to have the redemption status cleared up but the end of last year. He missed it.

We were also told that the Draft Redemption Cards would be done. They missed it.

We (hobbyists) have been bantering, emailing, PMing with each other about the next step, and I think we should move to the next step. Sadly I am concerned about how many can stick out the next two steps...

The first step will be our unified filing of complaints against Upper Deck as well as the NHLPA. The second step will truly test the tenacity of the collectors. I have been in contact with a couple of lawyers, one of which has expressed interest is the scenario.

The hitch for me is that the next two weeks I am pretty much out of pocket here and there. First Mississippi (don’t ask), the Curacao (vacation). After that, I will be able to commit whatever time it takes to initiate the first of the above 2 steps. I will start talking with the legal contacts I have about step 2.

If y'all can hang fire until 22-Jan then I will lead the charge. If you want to start before then please do and consider my full support in the ring with you.
FIRE IN THE HOLE !

Glenn

I suggest those of you ,who still have or are about to receive "U.D."e-mails,to save them. Lawyers love evidence like that......lol.

And if you write UD a letter, send it registered mail w/ DC, and make sure you keep a copy.

And if you call somebody, ask for a name and take notes, including the date and time of day.

;)

Consent is necessary??

In Canada, when calling to some agencies, there is a message like "Calls might be monitored....".

When they do that, they are advising you that they will be recording the call, usually for "quality control purposes". If you don't like that, you can hang up.

The problem is if you surreptitiously record the telephone, or any, conversation.

I have plenty of emails from Mr Carlin himself, a couple of them of him flat out lying to me, emails of me proving it to him, emails of him realizing he lied and was caught and trying to "make up for it"

I also have emails from other UD Customer service reps fibbing, even 1 where i was told to send in a cup card ASAP, i sent the card 2day air insured, a month later I ask about it and i got an email saying "oh there are no replacements for cup singles" this was 3 days after cup was released people.
