Vegas Expansion Draft "Leaks" (Don't open if you don't wanna know)

don't know if this has been said, but my thought is Fleury will
end up an Islander.......why else did NYI give up so much....

c.j.

Naw, Fleury is the face of the franchise for now. He's a seasoned pro, a class act, the ultimate team guy and will be a positive influence on what will be a shaky dressing room especially with the growing pains and losses they'll experience. Fleury will embrace it and Vegas is lucky to have him.

Fleurys GAA will be well over 3 (or possibly 4) as long as he is with this group. Passing on Dumba....really....I thought there might be a a 1st round pick given to them in place of not taking him. Wow.....a little shocked or am I missing something.

On second thought the D is not that bad. Not much up front but a decent D core. But there were a ton of other D studs out there.

Question.......How far under the cap are they.

I do hope he stays there, as I will plan my next vegas trip to
go see a game.

Couldn't Vegas simply have said "No thanks" to the trade offers and taken the best players available? Makes no sense to take extra picks or players when there is simply better players to be picked straight from the initial list in most cases.

I thought the same thing. They're playing awfully nice in these early days of the franchise.

Meh, they're going to be bad for a while anyway. If a few teams want to throw you first round picks to take someone else and make you marginally worse then you may as well. I know they said a bunch of stuff in the media about being competitive out of the gate but the temptation of all those picks must have been too much to resist, and if they keep them all they can pick up some real good prospects and develop from within. Their options were basically: A) suck; or B) suck some more but have a bunch of draft picks to compensate.

Read that they are 2nd in the league only behind the Hawks now, info from here. However there are supposedly trades in place that have yet to be completed involving the players they selected.

All those people upset, what league do you watch. Right now they could ice a team that wouldn't be last and they still have 10'extra NHL players to flip. They also have 0 prospects going into today. Now they have a couple and a boat load of picks! Vegas was given a strong hand and study played it well!!!

One guy I didn't want to lose from Colorado: Calvin Pickard. So naturally, Vegas took Calvin Pickard. I really hope Varly doesn't get injured 20 games in, because the Avs could be in for another rough year. Smith and Martin did not look the greatest when they saw time last year. But maybe that was the team in front of them. Need some D badly out there, but I think the Avalanche are going backwards, if that's even possible. Hopefully they do something.

As for Vegas, I'm surprised by some of their picks but definitely think we'll have a better idea after this weekend is over because it looks like they've lined up some trades with the people they took. Also 3 picks inside the Top 15 doesn't hurt.

They just flipped Schelmko to the Canadiens for a 5th as well

So:

TVR & a 7th traded to Carolina for a 2nd
Schelmko traded to MTL for a 5th

More picks for VGK

What a time for my internet to die :)

A lot of reading between the lines on these picks: Here's a draft pick (in some cases a first rounder!) to not take *insert good young player here* or to take *insert bad contract or declining player here*

Picks I liked: Colin Miller, Nate Schmidt, James Neal (pretty much by proxy - no way he's there in April though) William Karlsson, Jon Marchessault, Calvin Pickard and Jon Merril - mainly because the Devils had a whole heap of nothing worth taking

Picks I did not like (notwithstanding throw ins and draft picks) JF Berube, Chris Thorburn, Oscar Lindberg (Good player but I'd much rather have taken Raanta and flipped him), Clayton Stoner, Erik Haula (Even with Tuch and Theodore, the Knights could have had Manson and Dumba)

They're currently at 71 million for the cap (minus a potential 10 mil in LTIR for Clarkson and Grabovski). I figure they'll shed another 14 million or so in the next couple days. Still far more fun than the last dozen or so trade deadlines!

I like their team balance and thought they did fairly well with their strategy and fleecing other teams in the "dont take this guy" category and the salary dumps. Draft picks help form the core for tomorrow , vets like Neal, Methot and Fleury give some face to the franchise today and maybe a few bargaining chips before trade deadline next march to get some needed future value. So what if they finish last and win 20 games, new franchises are fun. it may be a long time before we see another expansion so enjoy this one. I was a fan for every addition since the 1st six and I thoroughly enjoyed seeing every team create history , good or bad.

Hjalmarsson and Hossa in the same week, someone tell me I'm just stuck in a really crappy dream..... http://www.tsn.ca/blackhawks-trade-d-hjalmarsson-to-coyotes-1.787259

That's a great trade for the Hawks.

Murphy is VERY underrated IMO and I am sure makes substantially less than Hammer on top of being much younger. Dauphin I know nothing about but I am sure the Hawks saw some good in him.

Hawks are transitioning well to get back in contention, I never count them out.

I'm not sure if I'm missing something here, but only Connor Murphy and Laurent Dauphin for Hjalmarsson? Seems like a low return?

Yeah, Connor Murphy is a fine defenseman, I actually like him a lot, but he makes just a bit less than Jammer so I don't get it. I know Seabrook and Keith get all the love but Jammer is their best true defenseman and it's not even close. There must be something else going on that we don't know yet, I know the Hawks said they are going to make a splash during the draft in their own barn but so far this is a dud.
