as the title says looking to see which players you hope Vegas passes up on your favorite team? I know it is very early and trades might be made but just looking to see what opinions might be

For my Isles I really want to keep:
Tavares, Strome, Nelson, Lee, Ladd, Cizikas, and of course their rookies
Boychuk, Leddy, Dehaan, Poluck, Hamonic
Halak

do you think any of those will of those be exposed? Of course Tavares will be safe and I assume Halak too

I'd have to look at the players under contract for 2017-18 and who is not but based on the simple formula (7 forwards, 3 D and a goalie) here is who I would protect if I were LA.

Anze Kopitar
Tyler Toffoli
Jeff Carter
Kyle Clifford
Trevor Lewis
Tanner Pearson
Nick Shore

Drew Doughty
Jake Muzzin
Alec Martinez

Jonathan Quick

Remember if they have a NMC it automatically counts them so you kind of HAVE to include those guys. If you guys can believe it, Anze Kopitar is the only Kings player with a NMC. Not Doughty, Quick, Carter, etc.

I think 1st and 2nd year players are automatically protected as well so guys like Dowd and Forbort are good to go.

Yeah they can't poach guys on their ELC, so most young talents will be automatically protected.

I was going to predict Lars Eller would be the guy that get taken off the Habs roster, but then he got traded. It will probably be someone like Pateryn that goes now from Montreal.

My ideal protected roster:
F: Pacioretty, Gallagher, Galchenyuk, Radulov (I assume he will be re-signed), Shaw, Plekanec, and one of the bottom six vets
D: Weber, Emelin (has modified NTC), Petry
G: Montoya....I kid obviously. Carey.

1)Josh Anderson(He needs to be part of the young core for Columbus. In limited games last season, he's looked okay. Solid in the AHL. But this season he looks like he's comfortable in the NHL and already getting into the good books of Tortorella. Started on the 4th line but with good play by him and crappy play from others, he's now on the 3rd line and putting up points.)

2)Cam Atkinson(Although after a season he would be a UFA. Could always go after him then but he might have a grudge being left unprotected. One of the few snipers they have on the team.)

3)Joonas Korpisalo/Anton Forsberg(Would prefer to lose Forsberg over Korpisalo because in limited games, Korpisalo was fine in the NHL while Forsberg stuggled. But these 2 goalies could be the goalie of the future once Bobrovsky's contract ends in a couple of years.)

4)Jack Johnson because I'm a fan of his. But I think most fans are hoping that he gets picked out the players I listed. Wouldn't be too bad. Would be a UFA after a year. Get rid of his contract and Werenski has taken over his first pairing minutes.

What about NTCs? Do they have to protect NTC players?

Also, take a player like Horvat. His EL contract is up after this year. He would be an RFA, but could be without a contract by June 20th. Does he have to be protected?

For my Flames, I would protect 7 forwards, 3 D, and I suppose if you have to protect a goalie it'll depend on if they extend Elliott before the season ends...

Gaudreau
Monahan
Bennett
Backlund
Frolik
Brouwer
Ferland (I believe Tkachuk would be automatically protected)

Giordano
Brodie
Hamilton

Elliott (if they even extend him before the end of the season?)

I believe Chaisson and Wideman will be free agents. So my guess is one of these three guys will be selected to go to Vegas, most likey it'll be Jokipakka...

Jokipakka
Bouma
Stajan

You have to protect NTC. Not sure on rookies

Depending how the year goes I might protect Jokipakka over Ferland.

Yeah I would have chosen him over ferland too, since he has a lot more potential, but if they protect Jokipakka, that means 4 defensemen and then they can only protect 8 total skaters and 1 goalie, instead of 10 skaters (7 fwd and 3 d) and a goalie with the other format. So I think that is a risk they might have to take unfortunately

Really want to keep Hanifin, slavin, pesce, lindholm, and rask in Carolina as far as the young guys go. Would be okay with seeing murphy leave but it's going to be hard to protect all of them. At this point I'm half ready to let them take Cam Ward lol
