Who is backing up Carey Price?

im guessin it will be deja vu @ this time next year. they will bring up Desjardins from hamilton, he will outplay Price, then he will be traded because price is still the second coming of vezina/plante/roy

No but really I think they probably will just get one of there minor guys to come up and if not I think Antero Niittymaki, He is cheap and a pretty average back up goalie. Thats the only one on the list that I would think they might go after. Or of course trade for a older veteran
 
I nominate Marty Turco. However, whether that happens depends on if Turco still feels as though he can get one more big contract.

I'm hoping Turco stays away. Never been a fan of his, and he may end up in SJ anyways. Nabokov in Dallas! Both one year contracts.
 
Depends if they are giving Carey 60 starts or 40. If it's in the higher echelon, I could see them bringing up Desjardins or bringing in a career backup type.

If they're planning on Platooning Carey I would have said Chris Mason but I'm betting he ends up in Philly.
 
ive heard turco many times in montreal.Also heard vokoun being rumoured in a multi player deal-with hamrlik,kostitsyn..
 
My money is on Nittymaki. Price has to play 60 games + to justify having traded Halak imo, so backup goalie will not be where they spend this offseason.
You can bet that Gauthier looks at upgrades on defence though, to make sure Price looks good.

Isn't Niittymaki a starter as well? I don't think he'll come to Mtl.

Michael Leighton will be there man. Why not bring in a player that over achieved the last few months for a year or two. Or maybe trading for Justin Pogge. he is a goaltender that has been all over the league and could be used.

I'd stay away from Pogge (bummer for him though). There's a huge difference in knowing who has what it takes and who thinks they have what it takes.

Pogge, needs to prove himself at an AHL level first. He has been given up on by two teams (or soon to be anyway)

Turco and Chris Mason are going to want to be starters, it may be possible to sign them later in the off-season if they can't find a place to be the number 1 guy.

Some possibilities I can think of if they are going for NHL seasoned guys;
Raycroft, Toskala, Nittymaki, Biron, Lalime, Ellis, Hedberg.

Hedberg may be a good choice. He is experienced and has put up good numbers over the past few seasons in Atlanta. He is a little old though.
