Who is backing up Carey Price?

Bob Gainey bigtime.

ok that's freakin funny, thanks for the chuckle

Ref Montoya; I think if you were to go with him that you may as well have Sanford come in from Hamilton for 600K.

Scotty;

Carey was definitely spooked last season. Added pressure works both ways. With Halak now gone, he doesn't have to worry about losing his job. Of course now he has to put up or shut up. No excuses now. All the way in 2011!

Now on the hobby side, it already appears as if people are jumping back on the Pricewagon. This is supposed to be the low season to buy YGs. Looking forward to his Cup releases. I still need his jersey base from last year. I just can't seem to get a good Price for one.

Auld is a decent pick up for back-up. And for $1 Million..not too bad. Except Ellis signed with Tampa for $1.5 million... IMO I'd take Ellis over Auld.

Ellis wanted a chance to start, and he knew he wouldn't get that in MTL, and I'm not sure MTL wants a threat behind Price. Auld is a nice, safe backup.

When did Huet ever outshine Price?

This is awesome news.

How many got sun baked today in during the Canada festivities? (Raised Hand)

How many wasted their day on TSN?

Now I'm going to sit down with a nice cold one and watch the Als replay the Grey Cup for 2010.

How do you Halak me NoW?

I had a healthy mixture of both! LOL

:laugh:I watched zero minutes.

I am done with TSN's hype over nothing to get us all to watch TV when we should be outside enjoying summer.

Gatta go now, want to sit down in my rec room in a highly cool air current environment and watch the Al's game lmao:devil:

For me it's more when Price tanks what do the Habs do because they don't have someone that can really take over.

 when?

You know you may have something there. I value your experience in goaltending. After all, you do have Luongo on your team so you know best about failing goaltenders.

I need facts as to why you think Carey will fail next season, otherwise you're just trolling for dollars.

You're basing a lot on his win % yet if you watched him a lot as you say you have then you'd have seen that during many of those losses he played very well, but his team didn't in front of him.

It's pretty simple. Price struggled when he returned from injury then when he played well he was overshadowed by Halak who was hot. Made matters worse when he played well and the Habs lost. To make matters further worse, he plays in a city of great scrutiny. Put him on any other team and everyone would be a lot easier on Price.

Fundamentally, Price is an excellent goaltender and he's proven that. I think it's a gutsy move for Habs management to stick with him and should make for a success story a few years from now.

Something to consider for all those folks who are only looking at W's and L's: of Carey's 20 regulation losses last year, something like 15 of them were in games that the Habs scored 2 or fewer goals. For the Habs to win those games, he would have needed a GAA of under 1.00 to secure victories and even then the best he could hope for would be a shootout victory.

One of three stars in almost every single game he won or lost says a lot. I've seen every single game he's played, and I'd like to think I know my goalies. He's the real deal.

For every shot on Halak, he'd have to make three more because of his poor rebound control. People wonder why he makes so many saves, it's because he has to. There are many more reasons why give more support for Price than I did Halak. But the rebound control was one of the biggest.

Nov 6th Habs Inside Out Summit.

We are at Hurley's Irish Pub on the Friday(5 Nov) night to watch the Sabres Habs game. Then on Sat night HNIC vs the Sens at the Bell. Sign up at the Habs Inside Out site.

For what it's worth Carey Price faced 30.3 shots per game last year, while Halak faced 30.8 shots per game. So the difference is negligible on that front. Halak played better, who knows what will happen in the future though.

Carey played most of the first half of the season when the team was new, Markov was injured, and they just couldn't score.

Halak started playing regular when his agent requested a trade. Well they got their wish.

I am not a Price hater. I too think he will be a decent goalie in the league. He's been under an unfair microscope and too much expected of him. He has not had the room or support to maximize his potential yet. I fear that in Montreal he has more pressure than ever now and their choice will be second guessed endlessly. Time will tell if he has the moxie to overcome the pressure. He certainly has the talent and skill set. But the bottom line is and was, Halak was the better goalie last year and he won the job. He got hot when it mattered and stole both series versus a much better team. The Habs went with their best goalie last year when it mattered, but I also think they understand Hala is at or near his ceiling whereas Price has a higher potential. Halak would cost more to re-sign and he would also command a better trade return. They made the smart business decision and it all rides on the young man's shoulders to justify it.
