Who is going to have the Sophmore Blues??

Jordan Staal's season wasn't as bad as it was on paper. He matured a great deal defensively, and is going to be an excellent third line center for the Penguins this year. -m.

Staal is back on the wing and is playing on the "1B" line with Malkin and Sykora and looked great Saturday night. However, with Therrien behind the bench, he could end up starting in net by the time the regular season rolls around. If he sticks on the wing, expect a better season then his rookie year.

As for the original topic...I don't really think Price will have a sophomore slump as he really didn't set the world on fire his rookie year, although he was solid. But from being a Pens fan and watching Fleury develop, it can be a long and sometimes painful proccess to put your team in the hands of such a young goalie. I just hope the media doesn't shred him when he's going through his growing pains.

I think Dubinsky is a good pick for the sophomore blues. Its always tough to predict this of course, but the best bet is to look at guys who were feeding off of better players, like Dubinsky with Jagr. Guys like Toews/Kane, Cogliano/Gagner and even Mueller were not really put into a situation where they could feed off of others. They pretty much had to make their own success, although if Mueller is bumped down the depth charts by Turris, then his numbers will take a hit too.

Here is the lock...Eric Johnson LOL....and to think I have a rainbow cup rc of his.

Moving to the speculative/armchair world...Id have to say it may be tough for some of the young oil who got lots of ice time to put up the same numbers this year (ie Gagner Gilbert and Cogliano) with the vets being back in the lineup.

Me thinks Kane and Toews will be fine as they will be top 6 forwards on the hawks and get plenty of icetime.

Really not sure on Price...he has been around the league once and I wondering if the other 29 teams now have the "book" on him....but then again I dont care about goaltenders anyways !!!

Tlusty??? was he that good last year that this year he'll slump ???

I agree with Cherdar about Gilbert, can't believe I didn't think of him before. His pp time will be gone with Souray back and Visnovsky added. I don't think Cogliano or Gagner will face that slump though, I'm pretty sure that those kids are gonna be second line, probably with Penner, and look what he did with Getzlaf and Perry. That could be a somewhat dangerous line.

I got to agree on Dubinsky, simple as no Jagr. Toews is in a sink or swim situation by being named the capitan after one year in the NHL. Price should have no huge issues and Kane has been skating with some of the Sabres for the past two weeks and looked great.

I'd have to disagree....Duby seemed to play just fine for Team USA without Jagr....Duby will do just fine this year but will be 2nd to another Rangers sophmore name Ryan Callahan...If I had to pick somebody with the sophmore blues it would be Price....I don't wanna jump on the bandwagon but I just don't think they kid has it yet...Lets see how he bounces back from that lackluster playoff performance last year

Mike Green - I realize not exactly sophomore but I don't think there is any way he will produce like he did last year - matter of fact I think I am the only one on the planet who thinks the Caps are going to fall a bit from last year. No way in my mind can they top what they did last season - everything went perfectly for them and I don't see that happening this year.

actually it be the kind line as the second line...

nilsson - gagner - cogliano..

penner will be third line with either pisani or moreau. and possibly brodziak as center.

cherdar said it all... Erik Johnson is guaranteed to have the worst sophomore year season ever... torn ACL/MCL during a pre-season charity golf game... damn...

ps. cherdar, pm sent regarding a previously discussed trade
