This was a card at the top of my wants. To bad seller seller took it out of the sealed holder. I'm pretty sure Brian has said before that they can't re seal the Superlative cards. So as a seller why would you do this, especially when your looking to get $1000 for it. As a Gaborik collector I feel the card is ruined and has lost any value it had, now that its not in the original holder.:|

Two reasons I can contrive:
1) Seal was already popped.
2) Some sellers don't appreciate how psychotically obsessive we are.

I challenged Brian on this. The point of the "sealed" toploader is to effectively guarantee that the card in pack is minty fresh. In his perspective, the 'loader functions as an additional wrapper. However, I understand your perspective completely - card in holder STAYS in holder...

I would question whether or not the card has really lost ALL its value. It may have lost some of its original value, at least to some collectors. However, I personally believe the top loaders are ugly vessels for great cards such as this one and I might be tempted to remove it and put it into a one touch instead for display purposes. I recognize that if I were trying to resell it that there are those who must have it in the top loader so I would probably keep it in the holder for that purpose. In the end it is a great looking card and regardless of the absence of the top loader it is still a great looking valuable card. Just my opinion.

I agree with this statement. If I were purchasing a card such as this one, I would be removing it from the toploader anyway. It belongs in a one-touch holder. I do not believe it's lost any value at all

I also think that these cards deserve a better and more presentable case then those top loaders with a big sticker on it. They should all be cracked and sent in and placed in a BGS case.

Perhaps I am pickier then most and it is a great looking card. I just prefer my cards to be as they were originally intended. I would never take a ITG UM card out of its slab and would never remove the seal from these either.

If anyone was going to give the seller close to the price he wanted, it would have been me. But I just can't bring myself to, not when its no longer in the sealed holder.

If anyone pulls the Gabby Get Real... please leave it in the ITG holder, if its available for sale.:)

Key statement here fellas. Really, your perception of whether or not the card has lost value is largely immaterial - the potential buyer has that view, and that's a more critical determinant of market value.

I totally agree with you from the perspective of a player collector. I still have my copies of the 03-04 Ultimate cards sealed. It really frustrates me when this happens.

However, here is something that just came to mind after seeing the BGS comment. Perhaps the good Doctor would put it into an Ultimate/ HSHS holder for you? Personally, I think this would be an excellent compromise.

i freed my Lundqvist Stick Rack from the top loader and would do it again in a heartbeat. had they used those magnetic one touches instead though with that lil sticker, i probably would've kept it in there. protectionwise the top loaders are garbage and those stickers tend to break by themselves.

that being said, i get that you'd want the card sealed but i'd imagine the seal was originally intended as a mechanism to deter patch faking. in this instance, you don't have much to worry about since it's a 1/1 Stick Rack.

and let's face it, Ultimate Memorabilia might be known for selling in slabs but no one buys Superlative for the top loaders.

That's the thing with collecting, value really is what a collector are willing to pay. The more people who want it the more valuable. If you are unhappy with the state of the card then I say walk a way from it. It do suck especially for such a high end card of such a popular player. It will likely hurt the resell value of the card.

To top it off the seller wanted 1999.00 very unreasonable. I am so tired of ebay sellers pricing their cards out of this world.

that card is a 300-400 tops

It would be zero work to slide it back into a holder though. Especially since the Superlative holders are not numbered or labelled.

Yes and Superlative is known for being in a sealed top loader. I hope no one buys Ultimate just for the slab. But these are the way the cards are originally put in by ITG and pulled from their packs.

I have walked a way, even though the card was at the top of my Superlative wants.

Mark the listing price is $1999 but the offer they are looking for is $1000. I e-mailed to see what they would accept. I paid $1000 for both Gabby Property of's but just can't do that with the Stick Rack being its not in the original sealed holder.

Sure if they still have the original holder, with the ITG seal... but the seal is broken.

I personally don't have this problem with Superlative cards. It wouldn't affect my decision to purchase a card. I still have the Superlative cards in their original toploaders, but I've considered taking them out quite a few times. Will probably put the in magnetic holders some time soon.

ITG Ultimate cards on the other hand. A big nay.

I understand being upset if a slabbed card from UM was taken out. But to break a little sticker on a Superlative toploader? I just don't see the big deal. I'd much rather see that card in a magnetic one-touch (where it will be better protected), than in a toploader that I could buy myself for 5 cents. That's just my opinion, obviously everyone is entitled to their own collecting habits.

I've contemplated pulling some of my superlatives out of their top holders. Specifically, ones that are just autos or one colour patches. I suspect the main concern for a lot of buyers would be whether the patches had been tampered with.

The card in question isn't a big deal to me. There is no way to enhance that card, but I can respect the opinion that a buyer would prefer it in the top loader.

Plus it isn't too hard to put a card back in a top loader with the superlative seal.

I agree with you 100% on this one Murray - all they way around. If this were a big PC card for me, I woudl steer clear as well.

I am not a huge proponent of the Superlative pacakaging but I am of original intent and delivery staying as intact as possible on a per card basis. The only person that should be breaking these cards out of their toploaders are the end PC users (if that is indeed a term) and then with the complete understanding that they are hindering future sales of said card.

The moral of the story:
If you're selling it, leave it in the original packing, or you will deter some potential buyers.
If you're keeping it, store it however you'd like.

lol...suddenly those stickers sealing the superlative top loaders are worth more than the cards themselves.

card without sticker = no value
sticker by itself = able to reseal any top loader = instant full value!
