^^ Agreed, Nystrom will fit in well there. He's a good player, plays hard every night. Sad to see him go.

Sutter has clearly put his tail on the line with this trade.:crazy:

Happy with the Tanguay signing but Jokinen....:banned::|:badmood:.

Also, placing Dawes on waivers is a huge mistake, I think. I don't think Sutter is going to survive this season. The Flames need a better GM, one that doesn't keep going back to "old Flames", so to speak.

I've wanted to get rid of Bieksa for a while now. He just plays dumb. He has good skill, but would rather try to intimidate people, and take dumb penalties. Reminds me of years ago with Adrian Aucoin. He has one hot year, and everyone thinks he is the next Norris trophy winner. We could have dumped him then, and got a someone good in return. Instead, we hang on and his value plummets than BP stocks. Too make matters worse...when he is finally traded, we got Dan Cloutier in return :badmood:

I go back and forth on Bieksa and know exactly what you are saying about his poor choices - he puts himself in a bad spot at times and really comes up short. That being said, the guy does have swagger and I don't think there is any other single skater on that team that delivers that same character that he does.

Whatever happens I will be fine with - if he leave I am confident Gillis will be able to get a good return for him. Bieksa had a nice playoff run and there will be a number of suiters for his services out there. If he stays, I will have moments of angst and moments of triumph - I can live with that.

I'm glad Tanguay is back with the Flames...considering he had his best season (points wise) just 3 years ago, I'm hoping he get's some chemistry going again with Iggy. 'Cause that T-Bay experiment was a dismal failure!!

Bieksa is around for now and I, for one, hope to keep him. Either way, there is some sandpaper in both Ballard and Hamhuis that should give you another couple of enemies moving into next year.

Fair enough, both are decent defensemen, but neither Keith Ballard nor Dan Hamhuis will give Jarome the headaches that Willie Mitchell did (and Mathias Ohlund before him).

I would have to think the Canucks are confident with their top 6 D:

Hamhuis
Ballard
Bieksa
Salo
Edler
Ehroff

They also have Alberts and Rome signed for this season, so they have 8 D. I would bet they would prefer to move Alberts if they could find a taker, and at 1.3mil left for this year and then UFA, he will be attractive to someone. However, if they went with Alberts or Rome as their 6th D, they do have a little cap room. A nice trade would have been Bieksa for Jeff Carter, but Philly already has a bunch of defensemen and signed two more. At 3.5 and then UFA, Bieksa is going to be very attractice to a few teams, Vancouver could use another forward, I wonder if Colorado might make sense since they have a ton of cap space and Peter Mueller is just hanging out there as a RFA. I can't imagine he's going to get an offer above 2.5mil, but someone may take a run at him. Kind of a pipe dream, but it would make sense for both teams if Vancouver is looking to deal Kevin away.

I think Hamhuis and Ballard will both bring more to the table in that shut down roll then some might think, and Ehroff is proving to be a steal for the Canucks and has that nasty edge which was not expected. I think they will be fine, and honestly, as good as Jarome is, he tends to be his own worst enemy at times and shuts himself down for stretches. Whether they keep Kevin or not, I think their defense core received a huge upgrade and they will do just fine if they all stay healthy. The couple of tweaks have made so far has made a very good team, a great team. I thought they had what it took to go all the way last year, with Hamhuis and Ballrd in the mix now, and an under rated signing in Malhotra as a defensive forward and face off specialist, they are going to be very scary next year. Of all the teams so far, I would have to give Vancouver an A so far in upgrading at key needs.

There's a rumor on Puck-Rakers that Columbus and Vancouver are discussing a trade, possibly involving Bieksa:

Bieksa A Target

"Sources" have told Puck-Rakers that Filatov is possibly involved. Personally it seems like Filatov's trade value can't really drop any lower and the risk vs. return on keeping him is too good to trade him. If we keep him and he comes back and once again things don't work out with Columbus I think we'd still be able to deal him for a Bieksa caliber player so I don't see the point in not giving Filatov one more try.

I love this deal. Get rid of Filatov before he turns into a full out Nikolai Zherdev.

Volchenkov to the Devils

And only 4.25 per year over 6 years with a NTC. Im thinking he could have gotten a tad more if he waited a tad longer. I know current talks have Staal and Girardi getting close to 4 per year from the Rangers, I would have tabbed Volch at at least 4.5 - 5 per.
