with a new owner taking over the sportscard expo, what would you like to see changed, based on a collectors view or from a dealer perspective.

I will start it off with from a dealers view,by having the public leave at the end of the night so we can close down without the fear of having something stolen. it's frustrating trying to close down with the public still hanging around.

I agree with this.If the show closes at 10.Than allow the dealers a half hour to pack up and lock up for the night.Having the show close and the seller to be gone at the same time hardly seems fair to the sellers.

Also,I am not sure how the rental of the room is paid. But if the rental is for the entire place. And if the bill for the promoter is the same regardless of how many sellers show up.Than why not allow the dealers to have a bit more space. When a large room is full.It always leaves the impression to most everyone,oh this is a busy show. I have not been there for a couple years. But there seemed to me that there was a lot of space that was not being used. Why not allow the dealers a bit more room.Make the isles a bit wider so there is ease in unloading and loading for set up and tear-down.

I know that this is not a promoter thing.Although he will take care of it if a seller complains. But the last time I was there I moved my sides of my booth in 2 feet to allow buyers a chance to view my cases down the side.Well on one end the seller next to me had total disregard for the fact that I gave up two feet of my both and he allowed his kids to pile there back packs, play games etc. and buyers still could not walk down to view my cases. When I brought to the sellers attention he got pissed off and did not speak the rest of the show. All I am saying.Show a bit of respect for each other. Now I am sure(pretty sure) if I spoke to Al that he would have taken care of the matter. But should I really have too.

A COMPLETE change. Change halls, get rid of the yellow and blue dividers, change the layout of the floor plan.

Barring that, use the entire hall. There seems to be another 100 ft towards the west that goes unused...they can expand that to accommodate the autograph area so that the corporate area and autograph lines don't blend and turn into a giant mess.

Offer VIP packages. These can include early entry access (one hour before the show opens to the general public), autograph tickets, promo cards, corporate exclusives, a stick of deodorant, etc.

Lower table prices to attract more dealers. I find this to be the biggest dealer concern (based on those I've spoken to) and lowering the price might attract more dealers and you're able to fill the room.

This in spades.

Clean the washrooms a bit more often. Last year I encountered a tird on the floor :(

Was he wearing a dealers bracelet?

Not sure, I was pretending not to notice it,but then thought to myself "well that's something you don't see everyday" maybe it was lucky.:) So I opened up a box of Series 1. No McDavid. So it turns out the tird was unlucky. :curse:Not a lucky expo tird.

I'm not positive about this, but I'm pretty sure the hall charges for the amount of space actually used, not for the entire hall. I'll try to confirm that, but even if they don't, the logistics of simply "giving dealers more space" wouldn't work because you would then be redoing the floor plan every show and possibly every time a new dealer came in.

as the Frenchman would say "and for opening that box,you get the tird star"

"Stick of deodorant" LOL So true.

My wife refuses to go to card shows b/c of the inconsistent hygiene habits of some of the attendees.

Also, a nicer venue would be appreciated. I would pay more for admission for a nicer venue, say one with carpet so my feet aren't sore from walking half the day.

I have thought about bringing my old gas mask and putting it on just to give some of the clueless stink-bags a hint.

The entrance should be split into 2 lines-one for those that have showered and one for those that haven't. Those that haven't showered will go through a process similar to Tim Robbins when he enters Shawshank. Basically get washed off with a fire hose and splashed with delousing powder. Then they will be allowed to enter the show. To cover costs, I would think most people would be OK with paying an extra buck or 2 for admission.

I also vote that they remove the guy who does the autograph announcements and replace him with Toronto Card Show owner Frank Williamson. If there's a more macho voice in this hobby, I have yet to hear it.

I have attended the expo for a good number of years and have always enjoyed every min of it but there are a few things that really should be implemented.

********SHOWER OR NO ENTRY**********

Cheaper tables, more dealer space and a bit more thought on floor layout might be wise. If it's true that AJ's has got the boot it might allow for a great array of autograph guests. I hope moving forward it will bring bigger and better things to the expo. Door prizes and vip packages would be great to see. A better announcement system would be great but i do agree they need someone new for announcing things.

I would think if you were paying $50 to get in early, you would definitely want in much earlier than a hour or 2,i have dealers that start buying off me as early as 9:00,cherry picking things they can double up on and I myself have usually spent a few hundred before the show starts

At the same time, many dealers aren't there until an hour before opening and aren't set up until the doors open. If you start letting people in early it will only cause problems.
