Official 2007 NHL Free Agency thread

And Lombardi still sits with $26 mil in cap space. Do you think the Kings will be lowering ticket prices by 50% since they are only committing 50% of the cap? Naah, they'll sign Roenick to a $4.9 mil deal and he'll score 9 goals.

Don't worry Steve, there's still a few restricted free agents they can throw money at like Vanek!

Yes but how many times before have the Rags gone out & had a high payroll only to miss the play-offs.I still say they won't win the cup.Just my 2 cents :)

Oh, good call on the RFA's...anyone think that angry teams might bombard the Ranger RFA's, like Lundqvist, with huge contracts to spite them? I mean, you have to figure the Rangers will match any contract offer, but this could make things a little more uncomfortable for them.

5 thoughts:

1)Is there a chance the St Louis Blues and Philly will be good next season?? Hold the phones...
2)Ummm....LA? Guys? Anybody Home?
3)Scott Hannan at almost 5 mill a year? I will be honest and admit I didnt watch him much this year, but that seems kinda steep
4)Note to self: Get in touch with Cory Sarich's Agent.
5)Anyone got tickets at MSG next season...should be quite the show.

Bertuzzi's a duck!! Oh well, I was one of the few who liked him here..:)

I liked him as well Trev - but not for $8M over 2 years.
The jury is still out as to wether he will ever recover from back surgery. He was certainly not the same player (even remotely) in Detroit. I question as to how close the Ducks are getting to the cap. If Scott N - decides to play one more year - you will definitely see some cap cutting before training camp.

I personally was hoping they would look at Jason Blake.

Ah well - I t will be very fun to watch Hudler, Filppula and Grigenko get ice time this next year!!!

So I guess the Bert signing means Selanne is potentially not coming back.

I feel for Edmonton and Buffalo Fans - the teams are both "less competitive" now (TM Darcy Regier)

I just saw the amount Bruce and I don't like him for that either! It's just to risky with a bad back. I'm sure the Wings will do something or they might just save the cap space for the trade deadline!

I believe they have about $11 M left.
Add in Hasek at about $3M and a couple of the Young'ins at $800K and they will be at about $45M. Seems to me that they could still afford Markhov, but people have been spending sick money on D-men.

Personally - I think they should break precedent.
Sign Zetterberg to a 6 or 7 year contract extension - with a signing bonus of $3M that would count against the Cap this year. That would bring Zetty up to the salary he deserves and lock the Euro-Twins up until 2013.

Detroit is still missing the big bruising forward that can compete with Getzlaf and company- I had hoped Kyle Calder would pan out - but he decided to either disappear or could not deal with Babcock. Of course we now know that Schneid's could not deal with him either - and that is really why he left.

I think Holland is waiting for the RFA's to start moving.

If it's me Bruce I go to Dustin Penner and sign him to an offer sheet and really screw the ducks!! They can't have much cap space left especially if Niedermeyer decides to return!
