Official 2007 NHL Free Agency thread

Detroit is still missing the big bruising forward that can compete with Getzlaf and company- I had hoped Kyle Calder would pan out - but he decided to either disappear or could not deal with Babcock. Of course we now know that Schneid's could not deal with him either - and that is really why he left.

I don't know what was said in the local media about Kyle Calder while he was in Detroit, but it looked like things were turning around for him after the trade from Philly at least during the regular season. I don't know what his relationship with Babcock was like, but I do know there were other things going on outside of the game that were a distraction for Kyle that certainly didn't help.

Nagy to the Kings? I like that much more than the Stars. Guess me and Barrie will go back to duking it out for at least another year ;)

Rob, I'll bow out before it starts. The ol' collection is getting some more cosmetic surgery to keep it trimmer and even more fit!;)

Not quite sure what "body part" I am trimming yet though!

Then again, if Blake shows up on anything with Nagy.........:p

As far as Nagy goping to LA, if he is half as good as Rob keeps proclaiming him to be, I am VERY happy with the signing.

I think that's why they inked him to one year, to see if he can deliver and then maybe they'll extend him.

He was very good for about the first 10-12 games and he was nice and strong in the offensive zone. His problems were in th ed-zone and in transition.

Canucks add Ritchie, Isbister

Vancouver Canucks Senior Vice-President and General Manager Dave Nonis announced that the Canucks have signed centre Byron Ritchie and winger Brad Isbister. In keeping with club policy, no financial terms of the deal will be released.

Deal with the Devils for Zubrus

The New Jersey Devils have signed unrestricted free-agent centre Dainius Zubrus to a US$20.4 million, six-year contract.

He will earn $3.4 million a season.

Here I was hoping that he'd re-sign with the Capitals.. Although, Nylander might be a better fit.

Bertuzzi at $4m a year? Burke must know something about this washed up has been that we don't. What a scam!

edit: I'll be happy about the Nolan deal if he makes around $1.5m.

Big news for the Habs with the resigning. Now if only Ryder would sign on the dotted line...

TSN.ca said:
MONTREAL (CP) - The Montreal Canadiens have re-signed restricted free-agent forward Tomas Plekanec to a two-year contract while also signing free-agent defencemen Mathieu Biron and Jamie Rivers to one-year contracts.

"Tomas Plekanec proved to be one of our most consistent players last season," Habs GM Bob Gainey said in a statement. "He established career highs in all categories and his defensive play was extremely efficient. He is young, dynamic and we strongly believe he is ready to take on more responsibilities with our club."

Plekanec, 24, ranked fourth on the team with 47 points (20-27) in 81 games in his second NHL season. He also led the team with a plus-10 rating.

Biron, 27, was acquired from the San Jose Sharks in return for defenceman Patrick Traverse last December. He led the AHL's Hamilton Bulldogs in scoring last season with 39 points (10-29) in 77 games between Worcester and Hamilton and posted a plus-16.

Rivers, 32, split last season between the St. Louis Blues, recording a goal and three assists, and the Peoria Rivermen, the team's AHL affiliate, where he had 23 points (4-19).

The Canadiens also signed forward Cory Urquhart, 22, and defenceman Marvin Degon, 24, to one-year contracts.

Minus Smyth, Blake, Kozlov, Poti, Yashin, etc

Add Fedotenko and Guerin!!!

Actually I like the signings, maybe some of their youth will get the minutes they need for the team to turn the corner.
