K how about making a trade and taking a risk on souray?A little bit more toughness on the blueline and a good shot.From the Kovy trade specifics,I don't think it would be too expensive to make a move for him.But...that depends on the cap space thing,not too up to date on that or if it can be made to work somehow.
But the risk for a cup run might be enough to take the chance.

Souray is a one trick pony.. A Booming shot from the point and that's it, plus he is currently injured and I don't think that Washington was on his short list of teams. In order for him to wave his "No Trade Clause".
 
Ok yeah but at least he would bring a little toughness on the line.How about these Kubina,sydor, or comrie for another spark,afinogenov?Could add that little extra that might be needed.I just don't want to see an islander's OT disaster happen again or the pens thing last year.

Besides trade talk anyone else notice ovy's +- rating of 41 this year so far:)His best yet.
Anyways this popped in my head last night,who else thinks they need to address the backstrom, semin contracts real soon?In the off season I seriously would resign these 2 talents to longer term contracts as fast as I could.You can't trade for great chemistry like they have going on here.Also for me personally,I like Fehr too,resigning him would be an idea.Varly goes without saying.:beer:

Didnt they sign Semin to an extension a couple months ago? It will be interesting to see what Backstrom thinks he is worth. I am thinking he gets Malkin $$$'s.

Nicklas Backstrom has been named the NHL's Third Star of the Week for the second week in a row; it's the third time this season and the fourth time in his career that he has been one of the three stars of the week.

Caps recall Semyon Varlamov

The Caps have recalled goalie Semyon Varlamov, who started in Hershey on Sunday and made 26 saves in a 5-4 comeback win over the Baby Pens.

Varlamov, who has been rehabbing a lingering knee injury, is practicing with the team at Kettler Capitals Iceplex. The 21-year-old hasn't played for the Caps since Dec. 7.

"I thought he got better as the game wore on," Bears Coach Mark French said after Sunday's win. "I don't know what the game plan is. As far as I know, his health throughout the game was fine."

*Interesting note. The Caps & Pens played Sunday, Caps won 5-4. Caps & WBS Pens played Sunday, Bears won 5-4.*


Also.. Caps held an early 9am practice at KCI then hopped aboard and early flight to Montreal to avoid the 15 MORE inches of snow expected in the DC Metro area tonight into tomorrow.

*Okay from a metro area resident.... enough with the snow already?*
 
Caps re-called Varlamov from the Hersehy bears today.
he went 2-0 with a 2.50 gaa and .915 save percentage in 2 starts.

Has not played for the Caps since Dec.7 a 3-0 shut out against Tampa bay.

Actually they did but it's only a one year extension as far as I know.I'd be signing him for longer and while I'm on the topic,sign Green to a longer one too.He's signed for another 2 years unless I'm mistaken as he signed a 4 year one in the summer of 08 I think it was.I'd hate to loose him like coffey for the oilers in the 80's.
As for Varly woooooot :)Good to have him coming back.

Chimera has been doing very well, hope he's back by the end of break.
 
Couple things:
- 2 most likely candidates to be on the move today will be Eric Fehr & Tomas Fleischmann.
- We have shown interest in Andy Sutton (obviously won't be happening, as he was moved), Barret Jackman, and I've heard a thing or 2 mentioning Ray Whitney.
- Tyler Sloan missed the last 2 practices with the flu
- Jason Chimera is very close to returning
- Semyon Varlamov is ready to go
- Michal Neuvirth was assigned to Hershey.

Yeah ,when I saw Osala's name i was a bit miffed but hey,the toughness and D has been addressed.I was hoping for a goalie to go with Varly,I'm sick of this million goals against theo thing.But if we win the cup with him ,I'll forget all about it;)
