RIP Luc Bourdon

I don't even know what to think....I can't imagine how his family feels...

Shame on all these ebay sellers listing nice or a lot of Bourdon cards just to make a quick buck...it is just sickening...

Quick buck? The cardboard will be nearly worthless in a few months. Is UD going to be just as tasteless if they release a card of his in the future?

Have you not seen it?

I am a HUGE collector of Luc, and everyday i searched for new cards of his on ebay. The most I had ever seen was around 40, and now, there is almost 200.

Almost half of them are in-person autographs, you don't think that is the least bit disrespectful?

Some jackass even has the balls to put "DIED TODAY" in his sub-title.

Come on now.

Ok and in a year, what happens to your collection? Are you going to just box it up or give it away? It may be spiteful but its practical. I don't see many Dan Snyder collectors out there..

I don't plan on getting rid of any of my Luc cards, I am still going to collect him and get as many of his cards as I can

whats tasteless is some people in this thread still concerned about his cards and their collections

Whats tasteless is that 500,000 people have died in South East Asia in the last month and people are still posting mail day posts!

People die, the truth is the family are the only people feeling the real impact of this.

Different scenario. How many Kharlamov or Lindbergh collectors are there?

The answer is going to be somewhere in between, of course. Luc Bourdon had plenty of real fans and an impressive Juniors and International Play resume before he was drafted. Dan Snyder was undrafted.

I won't be touching the prices of the Bourdon cards I have in my eBay store. I would much rather give people a chance to purchase those cards so they can get something inexpensive as a reminder of the talent we lost yesterday.

There is a time and a place to sell items of deceased persons, and the ethical collector does NOT up prices or list hundreds of items on the day the person dies - that's disrespectful and appalling. There's a season for everything, and in this case there's a season to mourn the loss... not to advertise "Hey, he died today! He won't be signing anymore!" That sort of thing makes me sick.

Here is a great story from ITG's website.

"We have been deeply saddened by the news that Luc Bourdon has passed away suddenly. We were proud to have a player of his talent and character associated with In The Game.

The following story highlights what set Luc apart.

It is always a challenge to get players to return their signed cards to us. The players are busy. They're traveling all the time. In Luc's case, his cards were sent to Winnipeg where he was playing, but he was called up to Vancouver. Instead of just shrugging his shoulders, Luc sent a key to his apartment by courier to a friend in Winnipeg who retrieved the cards from Luc's apartment. The friend then sent the cards to Vancouver where Luc signed them and then sent them to us the same day so we could make our product deadline. That was our experience with this fine young man.

Our thoughts and prayers are with his family."

Agreed!!!!!

This truly is a loss not only for the Canucks, but also for the hockey world at large. I can't begin to imagine what his parents, family and friends are going through, without having to even think about all the tasteless people listing his cards on eBay on the day that he died. The fact that there's more than 4 if not 5 times the normal number of Bourdon cards out there on eBay really sucks to say the least. RIP Luc - it's hard to believe that not only is he a year older than me, but already gone.

I saw this here - information about a charity connection to the Canucks that people are contributing too. I haven't found any requests from the family about who to donate to.

http://hockey-madness.blogspot.com/2008/05/bourdon-aftermath-canucks-place.html

Contribute directly to Canuck Place here:

After saying to the contrary, I'm thinking I'm going to relist Bourdon's cards in my eBay store and donate the entire sale to charity, the moment that I find a charity that is relevant and supported via Missionfish. I couldn't find any Canadian hockey charities there, and I think people would wonder if I'm really donating if I don't make it a GivingWorks listing.

Amen... well, more people than just the family will feel the real impact. There are levels of impact for sure. I bet true fans could feel pretty devastated. You don't have to be a certain person to feel something like this. What else is there to say? Do your best to be a good person while you spend your time here.

Youngsters career cut short

I was sad to hear this morning that Luc Bourdon was killed in a motorcycle accident.
My thoughts and prayers go out to his family.

Don't know if this was posted yet.....from the ITG website -

Sad to see someone so young go too soon.

The accident left a small town in shock, a family in mourning and a mother, who was Bourdon's "guiding light" throughout his life, screaming for her lost son. "He was my only child," Boucher wailed. "I don't know what I'm going to do without him. He was everything to me. I tried to prevent him from doing this. I tried to stop him."

Boucher, a teller at National Bank for 46 years, invested everything she had in Bourdon. Her time. Her money. Her vacations. Her life. "She was his adviser, his mom, his friend," Bourdon's agent, Kent Hughes, said. "She was . . . the guiding light in his life."

That really choked me up.

All this...from a strong gust of wind. It seems senseless. Have to keep telling myself what I was brought up to believe...that the Lord lets these things happen for a reason. Very hard, though...

My wife and I have been talking over the last year about me getting a bike. This clinched the decision for us. That money is going to her new kitchen - gladly now for me.
