I too heard he likes the anonymity of the smaller markets. That pretty much eliminates Canadian teams, Detroit, New York, Los Angeles, Philly, and Boston. And, if he wants to go to a contender who does that leave? San Jose? St. Louis? Nashville?

Part of me wants to see him go somewhere else so he can have a shot, but the other side tells me he's not likely to move.

I heard other fans say this as well. I find it funny though, during the Olympics, Nash said something about how he loves to play in a hockey market because of the atmosphere, etc. But then again, Olympics= short, NHL season=long and has 6 more years on his contract.

If you're Howson, do you take the best offer available, even if it meant trading him to a divisional rival? Hitchcock knows Nash so he may have some input. Although, according to Darren Pang, Doug Armstrong said that adding Nash is not plausible

The TSN insiders, in particular Darren Dreger, said the Kings have the best combination of assets to try and land Nash. He mentioned Bernier, Voynov, and Loktionov. Through in Penner as an expiring contract and that could be a deal. Maybe put Tyler Toffoli in instead of Loktionov, who knows?

in order for the Kings to make a deal for Nash, Penner would have to go to Columbus. i really believe that if L.A. is involved they will send Bernier and Columbus will send Sanford back. so, in essence, Penner will be traded for Sanford.

so that leaves Bernier + what for Nash.

Bernier is the first piece.
i'm pretty sure that Voynov or Martinez would be one piece.
i'm pretty sure a draft pick would be another piece.
the last piece is where it would get tricky. Loktionov is a possibility. he's really suited as a #2 center and he won't be that in L.A. so that could work. Toffoli is still in junior so i'm not sure he'd be dealt.

i could see Penner/Bernier/Loktionov/Martinez

for

Nash/Sanford

it would suck to lose Loktionov as i think he has a lot of Datsyukian qualities about him, but Stoll can be the #3 center for the rest of the year and Lewis or Richardson and take that spot next year.

as a Columbus fan, would you be happy with that return? a likely #1 goalie, a #2 center and a 5/6 d-man that plays the power play for Nash.

I haven't seen anything from Bernier to make me believe he's a legitimate #1 going forward. I'm not saying Bernier's not good, just that Columbus would be stupid to center a trade involving their franchise player around an unproven goalie.

I'd say LA, San jose, and Vancouver would be in the mix. One of Nash's best friends in the NHL is Joe thornton, and they play well together. San Jose has enough prospects and roster players (but not a goalie) to make a deal.

LA has a goalie, but it would be impossible to sell what Jackets fans are left on Bernier and whichever prospects are coming back.

Vancouver has a goalie, could move a Defenceman, and has a lot of forwards. Nash and the Sedins could work. I don't think Vacouver wats to go into the playoffs with just Luongo, and I can't see them having any interest in Sanford or Mason.

St. Louis would be my dark horse team. Package a goalie and Chris Stewart with a prospect?

Of course Nash could just stay put and we waste all this text.

Rick Nash could end up in LA and still enjoy the incognito lifestyle. Its a fit for him.

I would be surprised if he were dealt to L.A. and Voynov were not part of the deal. Martinez I don't think does it.

I have been trying to figure out a way for this all to work out but it would be pretty dang tough with the cap space (essentially 0) that the Canucks have.

Say you got Nash and Sanford - kicks our cap up by $8.4mil

We would have to send the following back:
Schneider, Tanev and Hodgson
I would think CBJ would be interested in these three guys but this only takes about $2.5mil off the cap number
Maybe throw in Raymond who expires at the end of this year at about $2.5mil

But then you have to ask them to take on Ballard at over $4mil for three more seasons or maybe Booth at just under $4mil for three more seasons. I just can't see CBJ making a move like that even if we threw in picks.

I just got off the phone with my brother and we were talking about the same thing. And we came to the conclusion of this exact deal. I also don't believe that Columbus would do this deal. And frankly I'd rather Vancouver didn't either.

Nash and Mason to Nashville for Lindback and Suter. I'm just throwing **** out there.

Lindback wouldn't be a bad piece coming back but sure as hell aren't trading Nash for Suter, he's an UFA at the end of the year and sure as hell wouldn't sign with Columbus. If it was a Suter sign/trade, I'll drive Nash to the airport.

More realistically it'd be Lindback, Blum, and a 1st. Maybe add in a cap dump as well.

If Howson trades him somewhere in the division, I will get in my car, drive roughly one hour to Howson's office, politely knock, walk in, promptly defecate on his desk, then leave w/out saying a word.

Don't forget to wipe on the curtain

this is what i think DL should offer for Nash/Sanford

Bernier/Penner/Martinez/1st

or

Bernier/Penner/Voynov/Cliche

CLM gets new starting goalie with huge potential, NHL ready d-man to play right away, an expiring contract to make the numbers work and either a first or the Kings leading scorer in Manchester.

that being said, i'd still rather trade Bernier/Stoll for Carter/Sanford.

I would switch Voynov with JJ .

Bernier is not a freakin number 1. I keep hearing he has great positioning and fundamentals but he lets in weak goals. He is over rated as ...... This is comming from a non homer Kings fan.

I would be surprised if he were dealt to L.A. and Voynov were not part of the deal. Martinez I don't think does it.

You are right. Martinez would not do it but Voynov I think would. I still think Van has the best chance since they have Schneider and the Kings can't compete with that.

Leafs could move Schenn, Kadri and something else for him. It would be interesting to know his short list rather then just guessing. LA might not even be on his list. Not saying that the Leafs are but at least its close to where he grew up.

I just want to see a deal get done, any deal, not the Nash deal specifially. Then the guys on TSN can stop speculating on who is going where, who is a "seller", etc.

I swear that the trade deadline coverage is overdone the last few years and the deals that happen don't seem to live up to the hype. The Nash deal will change that, if it happens.

If Columbus are smart and really want to move him they should get it done NOW!!! Then they can get first shot at who ever it is they want. If they wait to try and get a better under the gun deal then they will likely miss some of the better young prospects as they will already be moved. Burke always tend to pull off his moves days before the TDL.

it all depends what other offers Columbus gets. i would not offer more than Penner/Bernier/Loktionov/Martinez. let's not forget that Nash is overpaid. $7.8 is the fourth largest cap hit in the league and Nash clearly is not the fourth best player in the league.

only so many teams can afford to take on his cap hit for the next 7 years. so Howson (who signed him to that crazy cap hit) will have a limited number of options and since this story is out now he will have to take under market value for Nash. he can't keep him now that it's public knowledge that Nash wants out.
