Dany Heatley requests trade

Brian Burke is the biggest jacka$$ in the hockey world today. He had no problem trading for Chris Pronger when he was in Anaheim. What's the difference? I'll tell you what it is, Toronto has nothing that Ottawa wants and Burke is pissy about it. I am guessing that Burke was on the phone with Murray as soon as this went public (or maybe before), and when Murray told Burke that he wasn't interested in a deal with the Leafs, Burke got mad, and went off on Heatley, trying to decrease his value in future offers that Murray gets. Burke is the biggest liar/hypocritical d*$# in the NHL.

Brian Burke ripped Heatley a new one on this article from TSN:

Toronto Maple Leafs general manager Brian Burke let it be known that the Leafs will not be in on the Dany Heatley sweepstakes, and he pulled no punches along the way.

In a phone interview with Deb Placey and Billy Jaffe on NHL Live! broadcast on the NHL network, Burke stated that the Leafs had no interest in the two-time 50 goal scorer, largely because of the way he has chosen to handle his trade request.

"We're not going to be in on that," Burke stated. "He's a good player but I have certain guidelines on how players ask for trades."

Despite being only one year into a six-year, $45 million contract extension, the 28-year old Heatley went public with a trade demand last week, claiming he was unhappy with his role on the team and his relationship with Sens head coach Cory Clouston. Heatley, and his agents, J.P. Barry and Stacey McAlpine's actions did not sit well with Burke.

"When you have players come ask you for a trade, I tell the players 'don't finish that sentence,' because once you ask, I'm going to move you," Burke stated. "If a player wants out, you're darn right I'm going to move you. I'm not kissing anyone's *** to play in my town, so to hell with you, don't finish the sentence. My second rule is if I hear about this, you're not going anywhere."

While Burke stated that he has no problem with players requesting a trade, he was unhappy with Heatley's decision to go public with his request, thus making Senators general manager Bryan Murray's chances of moving the sniper extremely difficult.

"For a player to pop off and say he wants out or leak it (to the media), in my mind you are now no longer interested in your team. If you've done that you've handicapped them, you've handcuffed your GM."

While Burke admitted that the Leafs planned to be very active in the off-season and had plenty of money and cap space at their disposal, the 2002 Calder Trophy winner would not be welcome in Toronto under his tenure.

"As long as you are on that team, you owe them to maximize the asset, and once you've taken that step, sorry I don't accept that."

Neil is a UFA with hands of stone who wants 2.5 Mill per.
Take him... PLEASE.

I tought Neil was still an RFA. Take him out of the trade, we can sign him from you for nothing. He would add toughness to the roster, and that is something the Oilers need on the third/fourth line. And a bonus, then they could let Stortini go.

I have to admit it's hard to defend Heatley on this one. I love the guy... playing for Team Canada... he's a pure goal scorer., and is aparently a great team mate in the room....... but he should have handled this with a bit more class.

It's too bad the situation in Ottawa has gotten as bad as it has for them. It's pretty clear the new coach was given full reign to use the players as he chooses... Him and Clouston can't get on the same page and I guess it was enough for Dany to say I want out. Maybe he's trying to get out of town before it really gets ugly next year for the Sens.

Murray has his hands full in trying to move that money. But seriously there are teams out there that are going to put up the money (if they can fit it under their cap space). I don't see Murray playing hardball with him and refusing to trade him. Real interested in seeing where he'll go. More than likely out to the West.

I love how Burkey can blow hot air on a story that has nothing to do with him , and then pull the hypocritical baloney he does. I believe i heard this analogy as it pertaining to Burke " Its like wrapping your lips around a fire hose , you can only swallow so much". A pat on the back to the Toronto media as well to drop the ball and not ask the tough question on the Pronger situation , guess the quotable meal ticket may have shut down the drivvle that is Burke comments. Get over yourself Brian .

It sure angers me as an Oiler fan to read such quotes from such a biggot like Burke.
He says he is completely against any player publicly demanding a trade at season's end after that player signed a multi-year contract, thus "handicapping the GM" into making a decision they don't have any choice to make.

Umm, sorry Burkie, but you were all over this exact same situation when Pronger asked for a trade from Edmonton...in fact you salivated at the opportunity like flies on a stanley steamer, to "handicap" Oilers management for your own benefit.

This is just my opinion here, but Brian Burke is the biggest two-faced idiot to have ever graced the role as GM....heck even Milbury shines in my eyes over Burke! What a tool!

there are a couple reports the Blues are amongst the fron runners offering up
Patrick Berglund
Barrett Jackman
and draft pick or picks

Chris Pronger, anyone?

I absolutely LOVE how Brian Burke will sacrifice some of his principals to win.

As a Leaf fan, theres no better feeling than knowing we have a guy at the top that will do anything it takes to win. Thats a refreshing change isn't it?

Do you really think there is one GM in the league that isn't looking to exploit this position? Sure Burke has a big mouth and should zip it from time to time but he is only saying what every other GM is thinking.

They are all going to squeeze the Sens as hard as possible because, lets face it, there aren't many teams that can take on that kind of money in the first place so the Sens are really behind the eight ball - once they are out of the running they will all fall back on the quality of their team and the integrity, blah blah blah

Someone will make out like a bandit and will praise the Senators and welcome Heatley to the family - just another offseason in professional sports.

And to those of you cursing the fact that the Sedins want just over $5mil a season - here is a guy making $7.5mil that has scored 72 and 82 points in the last two seasons so you have to question whether he is worth that salary or not.

Heard that too. It was said that Murray likes this deal but says he wants it tweaked a bit. Maybe Oshie instead of Berglund? If that's the case and the Blues accept...:dance::dance::dance:

lol. That would never happen. I don't see the Blues giving up Berglund either.

i think the Blues would be inclined to give up a few of their d-men, a moderate foreward, and maybe a draft pick... they are trying to build from within, and i don't think i could feasibly see JD getting rid of Oshie or Berglund... maybe something involving Pietrangelo... c'mon Dany... you know you wanna come to the 'Lou!

I agree with the rest of your post, but I think you missed the point here. Right now, sure, the Sedin's are worth $5.25M/season...it's the fact that they want contracts till they're 40 that people have an issue with.

For the blues, theres no really specific talks of which prospects most of them are being mentioned including pietrangelo. At the moment the big talks (closest to a deal) are about the wild, something like sheppard cuma and the 12th for heatley. Avs are also supposedly in the mix and hopefully willing to move the 3rd lol.

Word is Boston has made a big pitch for Heater. I don't want to see him in Beantown unless Lucic is part of the deal...

I think this deal is going down at the draft, especially once one of these teams in the running realizes they aren't going to get the prospect they want.

If the Avs move the 3rd overall for Heatley I will be ubber pissed off. The should send Smyth to Ottawa for Heatley. This would only add about a mil in salary to the Avs. Maybe they can throw in Hannan as well.

Smyth isn't even close to Heatley in terms of talent, and his contract is too big for what he brings to the table. If Smyth is involved, I see the Aves needing the 3rd pick as well. As much as I love Ryan Smyth, he isn't exactly the greatest trade bait at this point in his career, considering his salary and what his broken down body has left to bring to a team.

Well aware of all that, that is why I suggested it along with Hannan. Not expecting it, but it would be nice.
