Made To Order

I love the Stanley Cup engraved metal card/dufex idea. How about a subset, based on that idea, but of guys who's names are either mis-spelled on the Cup, and/or who are for whatever reason, are anomalies.

Examples would be Dickie Moore(6 cup wins, name shows up 5 different ways), Glen Hall(Glin Hall), Ted Kennedy(Kennedyy),Bob Gainey(Gainy), and Eric Staal (Staaal- yes, really) among others.

Other oddities:

Adam Deadmarsh(first name to be corrected due to spelling error), Basil Pocklington(had his name x'd off the Cup).

You could even do a "Lord Stanley's Ladies" subset using this idea - An engraved name card for each of the twelve women who's names grace the great mug.

enforcersonly

I personally love the idea but let's hear how others would feel pulling a Tie Domi patch or a Stu Grimson patch out of an Ultimate Pack.

Not saying your wrong, just looking for other opinions on this one as I have considered it many times.

I also was looking into a Tough Guys wax product but not sure there are enough collectors to make it work.

Brian Price

I would certainly love to see some kind of enforcers set.

coaches auto set*4 auto on card), ex burns demers bowman lemaire arbour etc Now if you can get one of cherry's suits, that could be a 15 color patch in itself:)

another one that just came to me, autograph helmet set pieces that are size of pad and glove from this year btp, not sure how hard it would be to cut them into chunks but that would be cool

That would be an awesome twist on that idea. I didn't realize there were that many mixups on the Cup. That would make for a cool subset.

Another idea:

An autograph set from Hockey Movies. Call it "Ice Picks from the Flix" or something not quite as lame as my suggestion. :)

Have autos of actors or players who starred in hockey related movies. Don't know if movie and/or actors licensing rights come into play and cause havoc, but would be cool. And if the actor/player is deceased, then a cut auto version.

I dabble very little in TV/Film cards (just have a handful of them!) so I might be in a minority here. But personally buying a product as expensive as Ultimate - I wouldn't want to pull an auto of an actor instead. IMHO a low print run would hurt as much as a high print run. I would rather pull a high print run of a hockey player than pull a low print run JCVD auto no matter how much the secondary value could be.

One more thing I'd like to see in UMX - no card has more than 10 copies (even base!), and EVERYONE who has ever appeared on an Ultimate card, gets a base card.

That would mean 750 different base cards. Don't think that that is remotely possible, sorry.

i'd want to see a Emilio Estevez/Joshua Jackson combo! and nothing for Miracle? a dual auto of the actor/athlete would be cool. :p

How about something like a Hall of Fame induction class? I'd love to see the 2007 and 2009, and I know several people who would love a combo of two of the players from 2004, 1988, 1983, or 1972. Shoot, for 1983, who wouldn't love a Dryden/Bobby Hull/Mikita memorabilia card?

Ryan

Id love a father/son set. There are so many great combos. My dual sott of Alex and Tomas is still one of my favorite cards. (anything to get steen in again)

How about a Canada Cup series. You have 1976, 81, 84, 87, 91. Lots of years ans players to choose from. You could have a really good selection of players and teams from those tournaments. Many subsets could come from this as well. Just the 5 MVP's for the tournaments are a great subset or insert...Orr, Tretiak, Tonelli, Gretzky, and Ranford. You have the Canadians, Swedes, Russian's, Czechoslovaks, US, Fins. Just a great selection of teams and players from a couple of decades.

I am partial to sets like this just for the old vintage (and yes Tretiak) game used materials. I have not been around the hobby for too long, so this may have been done, I am not sure (other than Future Trends), but is just an idea.

I love the movies idea, but to be honest, not for UM. I could see that either as it's own set, or as a value added insert in either Heroes and Prospects, or in future versions of "the year in hockey" if the time frames line up.

Man, have there been some good ideas come out here...I'm sure Brian is overwhelmed with the ideas!

Someone needs to send this thread link to the NHLPA to show them what a stupid decision they made last month....LOL

I can't think of any new ideas, as there have been so many. I would agree with the movie idea being great, but maybe not in UM.

Enforcers would be awesome (Brian, I think more people would chase this than you think), Line of Defence (for us defenceman collectors), Agitators, etc. etc...

May just have to stop buying stuff until this comes out so I can CRAZY with it LOL

Kev, while I am, of course, with you and would love to see another enforcer set (even subset) - Brian might be basing his thoughts on the 05/06 Tough Customers Superboxes which, as I understand it, was pretty lightly broken.

- Blades Of Steel with a piece of the actual blade again, maybe even with a piece of the skate boot as a double memorabilia card.

I'll probably think of more, but this is one I would like to see especially with a solid vintage contingent.

i'll second that, Doc please bring that great concept back again...the double memorabila idea is neat as well....

here are some of my thoughts...not all of them used at once maybe....but a number of things that come to mind...

first for the base cards, in order to switch them up and to make ultimate memorabilia 10th edition the best ever why not make them all contain game used swatches...limit them /90 like last years and have the gold version /10(10th edition) and those cards could contain patch pieces and/or prime pieces of materials depending whats available for that player.thus adding great value and something for set builders to chase since the print runs are so low anymore =)

i also thought bringing back "Decades" with a TEN player memorabilia card would be prefect for the 10th edition of ultimate...

and rolling along with the number 10, why not pick the best 10 ultimate inserts over the years bring them back and limit them to just 10 copies each...and keeping with the same designs but updated player checklist maybe?

ok, going off huge success the ultimate emblems/numbers/tags/gloves have had, why not make an insert set devoted to the special one of a kind swatches such as the steel pad straps off the old vezina pads...or the lace holes from the old vintage jerseys..(habs and bruins come to mind)
i don't think we need more ultimate emblems/numbers/tags/gloves just yet...however updating last years smash successs with some really vintage players such as Maurice Richard and Jacques Plante and even doing 1/1 jumbo skate cards with pieces of the skate eyelits or something would be really cool!!!

lastly....some of the most popular insert sets i'd LOVE to see brought back for ITG ultimate memorabilia 10th edition!

--PAPERCUTS AND MEMORABILIA
--TROPHY WINNERS REDEMPTION CARDS(GET A PIECE OF ORR JERSEY AND A SWATCH OF THE NORRIS WINNER...ECT..ECT)
--BLADES OF STEEL(REAL SKATE BLADE)
--STICK RACK(NOT THE JUMBO SWATCHES....BUT THE TRIPLE PLAYER CARDS DONE IN 06/07 ULTIMATE MEM)
--EMBLEM ATTIC
--FIRE IN HIS EYES(ROCKET RICHARD CUT AUTOS)
--PASSING THE TORCH
--ULTIMATE HERO
--QUAD CUT SIGNATURES
--LINESMATES(CUT AUTO VERSIONS)
--AND MADE TO ORDER CARDS OF COURSE!

and one last suggestion to make ultimate memorabilia 10th edition the best it can be...HARD SIGNED AUTOGRAPHS!

already looking forward to it's release!

thanks, Geoff

A subset that honors retired players who have stayed with the same franchise through their careers ... I would like to see something like that.

That's what we tried to do in Superlative Hockey Volume Two with Complete Career Insert Set.

Great minds think alike.
